Homeownership takes a lot of responsibility and we, as real estate professionals, should be careful when we talk about it ie. equity buildup.  There is so much more to it:  buying the right property not a money pit, being responsible when paying taxes, insurance and whatever else it takes.  

The elderly look to it for their retirement and might take out an ill advised reverse mortgage and end up with nothing when they move into an assisted living facility.  

Some people are better off being tenants and be perfectly happy with the landlord taking care of upkeep etc.
