I have had both and HIGHLY recommend fiber-optic, Fred. 

In our world, time is money. Even a few extra seconds add up - not to mention the physical stress caused by the frustration of waiting on that spinning color ball to fade away!!

Fiber optics is amazing because the upper limits of what they could eventually transmit is so high! I read something that a group of researchers were able to send 255 terabits/second down one strand of fiber for a mile. That's something like 255K times faster than the 1 Gps shown above. I say go for it!!  Get that technology in place, enjoy the speed now, and be ready for faster stuff when it's available.

Fast internet means saved time, no delay Fred Griffin Florida Real Estate. Prices don't look bad but will they deliver? Lucky to have our own Internet company that was way way ahead of the curve getting fiber digitally connected. Fiber, glass is so much better than copper.

These prices are great compared to here. Seems you really don't have a choice do you? I personally wouldn't give AT&t a dime of my money.

Looks very expensive, of course anything is better than att.

give it a try and let us know how it works.  Not sure if I would buy in at the upper end until I try the lower price points

we currently have cable internet at more than $65 a month at less than 500 (which is good enough for all the streaming and uploading we do)  Our daughter just got fiber and it's good.  I haven't run a speed test, but streaming on her wifi works well and they have A LOT of electronics in their house.  home lap top, work lap top, lots of outdoor security cameras, a few indoor cameras, smart plugs, smart thermostat, smart alarm in safe and all of it is working fine.  She just got it about a month ago.  My inlaws should get it soon, will be a blessing because they use a verizon hotspot for internet... it's iffy.

I have zero experience with Fiber-Optic. 

I would go all in with the fastest they can provide. 

I like it especially since I cut the cable and now stream video shows to my TV.

Like Don said it's new to our area and our daughter has it and it's fast.  and it's more affordable and it has growth potential.  You could do wifi calling easily with fiber for your phones to work.  And also even in a power outage you can run the modem on a backup battery for a good long while.  And anything I could do to fire AT&T is a win for me.

Sorry Fred, can't help. I live in downtown Chicago in a hirise. The building provides service paid for from the monthly HOA fee. Great internet service. May be facing a vendor issue when we move to the suburbs. Good luck!

YES it's a great thing!  We were in the same position, and our outlying area was eligible for fiber optics.  It's like night and day and worth it... but watch out... they may offer a great deal for the first year and then the price goes up after that unless you complain or get creative.

Fred- when we lived in Leesburg, VA (2005) Verizon installed their FIOS which is I believe Fiber Optic. We loved it!!!! It was fast!

Hi Fred, ATT fiber optic recently became available in this area and the people who use it love it. We are in a condo and service is with Spectrum via the association. It is very slow so I am thinking of adding ATT fiber optic at our own expense but still in the early stages of research.

I glanced at the Up Country site https://www.upcountryfiber.com/internet     and it looks like wifi is an extra cost, can't tell if they bundle it, so there is that to consider. I am always leary of plans that say "No contract" since that means they can raise their rates or change your plan/service at any time but the no data cap sounds interesting.

Here's a link to an article that might interest you with the different providers and their cost but Up Country is not listed. Best internet best gigabit providers. From looking at the pricing, your provider sounds very expensive so I'd start with the cheapest plan and upgrade if you like it.

Is StarLink available in your area? If so, that might be a good alternative for you.

Speed is so important.  If you can save just a few minutes a day it adds up in great savings and production.  Sounds like you have a few options.  Try the middle one first ... if it is successfui take on the top choice if you see the benefits! The choice between fiber optics and cable was presented to me yet I am intrigued with fiber optic. Waiting for time to reveal it all.
