Jerry, Quite a few members join, but do nothing further than create a profile page.  In the next tier are some people that dabble slightly (either a few comments or a few posts) and then move on.  After that you get some shooting star types, they come in with a big splash, but don't maintain and then disappear.  Above that you get the regular bloggers who stay with it.   Some of them stick around forever, others come and go.  

Two thoughts come to mind:

I stopped trying to climb the Cali leaderboard a long time ago.  Getting #1 in my city was almost instant.  County took a month or two, then I did pretty well in the state.  In the last two years, I've blogged twice.  Once per year.  I'm still 19th in the state and #145 overall.  To climb higher would be a significant blogging effort and one I honestly don't have the desire to do anymore.  Market reports are just so boring.  Sure I could post all my old listings and sales from the last couple of years (a process I stopped doing as well), but that doesn't interest me any and why give "you know who" the blogs to write "Listing looks great, I'm sure it'll sell quickly" on all my sold listing blogs?

I didn't realize that there were that many in the area, when I think of the Denver area, I think of Will Hamm 

Through the years I’ve bumped into people that have told me that Active Rain didn’t work for them . Then I look them up and see that they have less than 5,000 points  

Another factor to consider is the number of people who belong and don't post.  I think this is probably a large number.  I don't want to call them lurkers but others might.

Interesting. I just looked at my county - there are 87 ActiveRainers, almost all of them just have a blank profile and nothing else. Then I looked at the top 10 just to see what's going on. Of the top 10, five are still active agents in our area, the other 5 are not in the business. One of those 5 is me (the active ones). Two of the others have never written a post. The other two have not written a post in 11 years. So that goes to show that of the 300K plus ARs, very few are actually still in business and still writing.

The numbers don't surprise me. Many are members and few participate regularly. And that is the way it is in many organizations.

The key word in any AR members list is "Active".

I believe that I may have written all of the posts in our county.

I recently talked with a broker in our county who runs the only other firm that has joined, she did not even remember joining.

There are 3,625 members in Cook County (the county I'm in that includes the city of Chicago and the collar counties that surround it).

Of those 3,625, I know some of the names of the first couple dozen, and that's about it.  The top 40 or 50 post now and then, or I'll see their name in an occasional comment. 

#1 Wayne Martin is retired.  #3 Lyn Sims is also retired.  But both are active on Active Rain.  Wayne posts frequent quizzes, and both comment frequently.

#4 Noah Seidenberg used to be a very active member, until he passed away a year or two ago.

#5 Margaret Goss is an active Realtor, and shows up in the rain, now and then.

Beyond that, most of the Cook County membership is fairly inactive.  #6 Jim Holder hasn't posted anything since 2018.

Active is the key word, isn't it?

Interesting data, Jerry. The Charlotte area and in NC, the stats are similar. After AR taught us all how to create our own websites, we lost many members to just that - maintaining their own sites. They're still in the business (in fact, I keep up with many of them and still pass referrals back and forth) but, focusing on their own sites. 

Then there are those who sign up and never even write a post...and then there are the members who blog here well into retirement. That's the beauty of this platform - we embrace any level of activity, the "You be you" mentality!

I don't see how I can use this info. You can see this by just particpating.

Interesting deep dive analysis.  I bet most markets offer similar results.

These numbers have been pretty much the same  % since my first days in the rain back in 2009.

I've never given much thought to the stats. I do know that there are some who join and do nothing more...some who join write a few posts and move on...and some who were very active but find that their time is better spent on their own website. 

You put a lot of thought into this, Jerry. Interesting stats and like ARMS stated, many sign up and as many leave for whatever reason.
