Insurance companies are changing terms and conditions. People in outlying areas need to be proactive and create a defensive space (wildfire destruction prevention) or their policy will get cancelled. And of course, with everything else going up, rates are too!

In CA it is going up quite a bit in high fire areas.  A return to 2000-1 when mold was the issue.

Insurance is a bet by the company against risk. The higher the risk perception, the higher the premium - if you can even obtain coverage.

The discovery I have done on your question subject sickens me as to what I find and continue to find. Premiums have doubled or tripled, deductibles through the roof, coverage is iffy and the small print protects the insurance company. Their mismanagement is costing me money. Their indifference is troubling. Take it or leave it is not very warm & inviting but that is their business model. In their eyes, I am reduced to a statistic or algorithm, a computer formula that dictates how their employees respond to me. I have a fire hydrant in front of my house. No fires in may area for decades. I have made no claims, yet I am treated like I had all three?

I know that ours is due and it has taken a jump Peter Mohylsky . It stings but is not an issue yet at this time for us. I can see where it may be the final straw for those on a fixed income who are already stressed by the current inflation rate.

No. Lots of independent agents and shopping yearly to make sure you get the most coverage for the least premium is how we are were raised. Your profit is in your expenses common sense thinking Peter Mohylsky. Just speaking for my rural area of Maine and not a megaphone for the country, other insurance markets. Jack up that deductible and get "cancer coverage" worst case if total loss and don't pay for $250 deductible coverage. You would not make a claim on something that small so why pay for that kinda of coverage?

None of my buyers have reported issues and about 65% of my business this year has been buyers. My business really shifted from 70% listings last year to 35% - but thankful for it as it has become a very robust balanced market for buyers and much more challenging for sellers in San Diego's 2022 market.

Not as much in Chicago as it did in Florida. A move to Chicago, of all things, reduced my car insurance. Go figure!

No doubt there have been increases, and being in a high risk fire zone can make getting homeowners insurance a real challenge, and expense.

Insurance has definitely increased, and living in the mountains is increasingly difficult to get insurance due to the possibility of forest fires.

I don't recall hearing about this issue - but it very well could be with most goods and services have gone up in cost.  We need to renew or shift our fairly soon so I'll find out soon enough.  Hope it's not a whopping surprise.
