AH! You mean a GAUSS meter!

We used to 'degauss' (erase to be reused) magnetic tape in my ancient days on the air, and if it was done accidentally no bueno!
Yeah in the older areas, overhead powerlines can be a concern for many.

I was prescribed grounding bedding by NMD to counter the effects of EMFs from electronics while sleeping! 

I am told it is okay if people just wear a mask. 😵

     Stray voltage, talk to a dairy farmer, anyone with animals in those pasture fields. Radiation and the eyesore can create inner tension besides the 640KW or whatever voltage buzzes in the lines. When I stop at night with fellow snowmobiliers to admire the stars and have a barley pop, any power line corridor hums and can glow blue.

No one calls, texts, stumbles into the office lobby asking for "what do you have in a swamp, with big ugly power lines or wind generators". That's not showing up on the gotta have wish list.But 3 phase power for a manufacturing shop, now that is horse of a different color and you are already parked in an industrial zone.

No one wants to. Reasons are sketchy at best. I hate it when they buzz in the rain.

The towers and lines are ugly. Some people believe proximity to high power lines is can cause Cancer. Our power company say that is not true. Some "experts" say you an get the same problem from a cell phone or hair drier. 

I wouldn't do it because they are ugly, but I think using a cell phone is just as dangerous.

Maybe Tesla was right, and people near high tension lines can get some free electricity ;)

No experience with gauze meters... but most people I run across do not want to be next to power grids, etc.

Over the years clients have all chosen not to live under or even close by big electrical grids and/or a lot of wires.  I am not familiar with gauze meter.

I've had clients refuse to purchase near high voltage lines or a power station. Personally, I think they're ugly and possibly dangerous (who really knows?) and would not live under/near one myself.

The modern version of the Gauss Magnetometer is known as a Gauss Meter. A Gauss Meter can measure the direction and the intensity of small (relatively) magnetic fields. For larger magnetic fields, a Tesla Meter, is used, which is similar, but it measures in larger Tesla units. A Gauss Meter comprises a gauss probe/sensor, the meter and a cable connecting both. The Gauss Meter works on the basis of the Hall effect discovered in 1879 by Edwin Hall.

A pioneer in the study of magnetic fields, Carl Freiderich Gauss (1777-1855), is also considered by all to be one of the greatest mathematicians. One of the first devices that could be used for measuring the direction and strength of any magnetic field, was developed by him – the magnetometer. He also developed a system of units to measure magnetism, and to honour him for the same, the modern unit for magnetic induction or the magnetic flux density in the metric (CGS) system is known as GAUSS. The basic unit of magnetic flux in the SI measurement system is TESLA (so named after Nikola Tesla, the father of electricity) and 1 TESLA = 10000 GAUSS.

Yes, it can still be a problem. Some people believe they cause cancer no matter what you show them. I've had sellers get radiation reports from the power company that show their home gets no more radiation than a microwave oven and most buyers are still concerned. And, if they're not worried about the radiation they're worried about the resale.

Years ago looked at a beautiful home that backed up to high tension lines. Took a pass! The home remained unsold for years as did several adjoining homes. The bank got the project back. Today, these homes are occupied. No experience with a Gauss meter.

During my career I only had one client who found a property they liked but wouldn't buy do to lines BUT they were high power transmission lines Peter Mohylsky. BRIX REALTY . I myself have more lines in my front yard then I am like but we love our home and neighborhood so we won't be moving anytime soon.

Many of my clients are SDG&E and there's no conclusive proof to validate the concern.

There were reports to the effect that exposure to Electro-Magnetic Fields or EMF's are linked to cancer, particularly childhood leukemia. No parent wants to take that risk.

In the past I have had a few clients that chose not to offer on homes with high tension lines ... but along came another buyer and they were sold! So it is not a big deal in my area, but some are of the belief it causes cancer and brain tumors, etc.  

And thank you to those who have educated me on the GAUSS meter. I never heard about that!  I seem to learn so many interesting things here in the rain!

I worked with a Feng Shui specialist who used a Gauss meter at every home we previewed. She was primarily concerned with cell towers too near residential dwellings.

Have not ever had a client asking to live next to them!  Along with the EMFs, they are an eye sore.

I wouldnt live near one and suggest to others to not risk their health.

There were huge, high tension electric lines right next to the middle school that I went to.  My dad used to say that the school required the desks to be lined up parallel to the electric lines.  They couldn't be perpendicular in case the electric lines toppled over. (This wasn't really true.  It was a dad yarn.)

Fortunately, the electric lines never fell on any kids (or anything else, for that matter).

I sure do.  I wouldn't buy a home close to a power line or with one in view.  I use this standard when telling clients about a certain home and location.  I've heard the powerlines sizzling.  I would represent a buyer or seller on the sale but the disclosure would have them do their research for any medical studies

I find people still have concerns regarding living close to high tension lines 

Actually, I had a home inspection done on a home I was purchasing a few years back. I did ask if he would purchase next to high tension lines and he told me no. I walked away from the home. I really liked the house but didn't want to take a chance on the unknown health concerns.

Yes, I personally never used a Gaussmeter, but any power grids and proximity to heavy traffic streets  are usually not desirable features. 

Absolutely, they are a Health hazard . It can cause Brain Tumor and Breast Cancer in relatively young people .
