Newbies need to take advantage of all floor and open house opportunities.  Plus they need training on how to grow a referral base.  A good managing broker should be able to help them.

Ignorance is bliss:) When I got my license I thought I'd get rich and successful fast. Who does not? I've seen brand new agents who landed bougie listings almost immediately after passing a test. As they say here ~ and I agree: it is all about who you know. 

It is not how it worked out for me.  It took me some time to figure it all out.  Actually, I am still working on figuring it all out. It is part of the fun. 😃

I think a newbie in any business is still trying to figure things out.  I don't blame them for having expectations that may or may not line up with reality.  When I first got into the business, I didn't have everything figured out either.  There is a learning curve with any new venture.

Dear newbie, Congratulations on getting your license and choosing a brokerage.  

No matter where you are, or whatever brokerage you join, here is your training for your very first day in the office:

"Here's your desk. Here's your phone.  Good luck now, you're on your own."

And how is that working out for him?

That used to be sort of true back in the days when we did "floor time". Not anymore.

With the approach that you mentioned Wanda Kubat-Nerdin - Wanda Can!, that newbie will be one of the statistics of failed real estate agents fairly shortly.

Advertizing...fraternizing...socializing...mixxing...and other active outgoing activities are needed to be successful.

       Tell him to stand at an intersection and hold a cardboard sign that reads, "Will work for Real Estate commission".

LOL!  That's like me saying "I've been single almost my entire life.  I'm still waiting for marriage quality women to approach me!"

Arogant on his part. No one told him how he should or will get business evidently. 

I do know someone who was brand new and went out and met with every single expired right away, got a $2M listing in his first month because the seller liked his energy - sold that and sales just kept coming to him.

It can happen. In the case above, I hope that agent has a great broker, support system, marketing plans and energy level to make it happen as soon as possible. If not, he may be starting a new career soon.

The operative word is EXPECT.   One can expect all they want, can't they. I'd probably be saying this to a newbie agent that 'expects' whatever..... So tell me, how is that working out for you. 

That may be some optimistic thinking on his part, of course I dont know what he is doing in the marketing spectrum to push them towards his door.

He can expect all he wants to but in reality it's most likely not going to happen.  As others have stated getting your license does next to nothing to prepare you to being a Realtor. (In most states it seems)  About the only thing I remember from real estate school is that an acre is 43,560 sq. ft.  Everything thing else I learned from my broker or by taking classes.  Good luck to him!

Yes, I feel they should believe that people would come to them after using the same techniques the rest of us use: social media, relationships, referrals, and the full backing of their brokerage.  I don't know what your real estate schools are like, but up here we're ready. We know our contracts, and have a full understanding of the procedures and transactions. Any curve ball thrown can be handled with the assistance of the Broker.   They're fresh up to date on any educational matters unlike many of the seasoned agents too!

What? I just read an ad about a newbie introvert getting 6 figures in 6 weeks.
The ad said you get to wear nice clothes and shoes, see fancy houses, work at your leasure. And it assured homeonwers would be CALLING ME!

Newbies CAN get busines right away but it is unlikely they will do so following the advise of those who have been in the business 30 years and their getting started memories have faded.  A young newbie is more likey more aligned with how youngish home buyers want to do business. They simply need the good fortune of having a mentor who can exploit this desire with proper messaging and infrastructure. Lacking this good fortune, todays newbie is bascilly tasked with analyzing what they have the most to spend, time or money.

Is he applying for work as a member of Joey the joke's cabinet? Sounds like he is qualified!

That's a great expectation, this along with hard work and knowing how to find potential clients will surely payoff.

When I attended real estate school, they told us 80% of us would not make it, and we would have to work very hard to stay in the business.   I didn't take that lightly.

He may be waiting a long time. I hope his office is getting sponsors for free lunches. Someone should guide him in the right direction before he becomes another new licensee casualty.
