It's a numbers game.  One I don't play, but I know some successful people that do play it.  Some of the most successful LOs I know blast hundreds of Realtors every day, and they have some successful replies -- you never know when you reach someone in need of a product or service at that moment.

Not my favorite approach, and I agree, 100% impersonal and annoying --- but if it never worked, they would stop doing it : )

It is amazing that it is still being practiced.  I guess it must work, or else it wouldn't be profitable and the calls/emails/texts/faxes would stop.  It is endless and endlessly annoying.

LMAO - no matter it must still work. Like John Meussner says it's a numbers game. Like the old saying with marketing  mail, email, calls, knock on doors etc.

Phone calls still work. I'm not a fan of people calling me & then expect you to answer their questions. I will say that some people are REALLY GOOD at these calls. Those people I go lightly on - others forget it.

When I used to do it people said they talked to me because I sounded nice.

If you have a legitimate product or service, you can email me, or send a flyer or postcard via U.S. mail.  Maybe I will look at it, maybe not.  Chances are it will get deleted, or go in the round file, without ever being opened.

 

But phone calls (or door knockers or unsolicited visitors to the office) are NOT acceptable.

 

   I don't care what your game is, whether it is legitimate or illegitimate.   I will hang up on you, then block you.  If they are physically at my door I will point out the no-soliciting sign, and tell them that they are violating the law.

At it's base level, it's not really any different than doing EDDM or mailing to a farm area or doing just listed/sold mailers.  99.999% of Unsolicited Commercial Emails ("UCE") that I receive get deleted... but every once in a while I'll get an UCE that speaks to something I'm interested in at the moment and I will at the very least research the company and likely call them.  In the case of some mortage lenders, I have learned about interesting programs from their email and then reached out to my preferred lender to see if he offers that program.

 

Phone calls and the straight to voicemail ones generally don't get as good of a response from me... sometimes a far worse response.  I also do report automated calls to the feds, since that is still illegal.

I've never understood this practice - it reeks of desperation regardless of who's trying it.  I would never do business with someone who appeared on my doorstep or annoyed me by calling on the phone.  Why anyone would choose to tick off 99 people to get one possible maybe is something I just don't get.

I understand that depending upon the type of business one is in, there are practices that work better than others. It is very rare that I get something in the mail that actually gets my attention. I am not a whim buyer. But there are many who are and they are the target market for such mail, stop-bys and calls.  I must be honest and say that although it is a "big interruption" to my day, I have had some very interesting conversations with people who are happy to get a "nice person, happy person" on the phone -- and although they did not sell me anything, they were touched by our conversation and told me they were glad we got a chance to chat. It brightened their day.  We both hung up smiling, and not a dollar richer or poorer. 😇

I often do business with those who show the energy to go and find the business. To me these committed people deserve more appreciation and I DO BUSINESS WITH THEM.
There is a growing poplation, many right here on Active RAin who are rankled by any intrusion into the construct of peace. These may have forgotten how they go started and have recited many times why they consult against following the path they journeyed to atttain their success.
My view is 'it's not all about me' and by engageing others, even if they are pursuing business, is an opportutity th LEARN. As I've said before, those who own the words 'I KNOW' are unteachable.
I, on the other hand, will ask, "How did you get into this SOLAR business?"
"Do you or anyone in your company own a house with this solar system installed?"
Or, I might ask, "Why do you, every weekend, commit to knocking on doors of people you don't know and subject yourself to such abuse when you reveal the invation is to the Johavah Witness celebration?" Or, "What's the good news from the Gospel today?"
None of this harms me and all of this benefits them whether they know it or not.
Door knocking, cold calling still works but not for the weak of spirit.

I often wonder the same thing. I imagine it must work on some people for surely all these companies/businesses wouldn't spend money on this type of marketing if it didn't. When I have time, I try to reverse prospect. I've actually gotten a few clients that way.
