Sloth is one of the 7 deadly sins.   What a shame that the Federal Government encourages it.

To your question, the retail stores are doing okay, but restaurants are still in need of help.

No not at all. In fact, restaurants are still short staffed & will tell you about it as soon as you walk in.

Many inside eating areas even at MickeyD's are closed.

Lots of "Hiring Now" signs in our area. Some restaurants are having a hard time opening due to lack of help. Hope that changes.

The payments may have ended, but now the illegal mandates are going to force people to not work or risk taking an experimental drug (that hasn't even finished animal trials yet) which has been proven to weaken the immune system, increase the rate of cancer spread and has killed more people than the flu it's fighting against.

Everywhere you turn in Charlotte you see help wanted ads. As I speak with business owners, they are not yet seeing any significant relief... I keep wondering what all those people who no longer get benefits are doing for money if they aren't going back to work.

The missing componet of the story is whether the business has made their wages more attractive.
Workers were never a problem. The problem was no one wanted to work for what they were paying.

Yes our Govenor dropped the unemployment back in early summer or maybe it was spring.  Funny how folks found jobs quickly.  Still lots of jobs out there for anybody wanting to work.

One of our favorite restaurants is no longer doing take-out because of the staff shortage. So glad people now need to get off their duffs and go to work to get paid!

It seems to be getting a little better. Restaurants have been closed on days they'd normally be open because of the lack of people to hire. Even Chick fil a had to close on days other than Sunday because of a lack of workers. Plus, our area is growing so people have more choices.

Edited to add: The restaurants and places that have hired have also raised their prices significantly to account for what they have had to pay to get someone to work.

According to the latest job report the 2 dozen states that eliminated the extra benefits are showing just half the job growth as the states that still offer the extra benefits.

There is no 1 reason why there is a labor shortage but rather a bunch of things that are piling up. Here are a few.

A lot of workers were seniors staying busy ( lowes, etc) and they mostly left the workforce out of fear of covid.

Of the 700k who died we probably lost several hundred thousand workers.

With time off from work during the lockdown a lot of low end workers used the time to take some courses and apply for better jobs.

Around here there is a real shortage of foreign workers which has devistated the crabbing industry, with no crab meat pickers there is no one for crabbers to sell their crabs to so there is a shortage of crab meat and lots of crabbers on unemployment.

There are no foreigners (around here) to wash dishes in the restaurants so now dishwashers are making 15 - 18 dollars an hour and drawing workers in from other jobs. Extrapolate this across different sectors and it starts to add up.

Most of those on lifetime unemployment are people I would never hire and some of them I don`t want working in businesses I use. A good example is the lady who accidentily mixed lye instead iced tea in a bbq joint. People like that should not be allowed to work
