Not only hit the save button, but frequently cut and paste your draft to Notepad or Open Office or some other word processor. Because when it's gone, it's gone.

There is an autosave built in, however it stopped working shortly after it was installed many years ago.

Recently I have reinstituted the policy of hitting the save button before hitting the post button.
