Good for you, Tammy.  I have long heard that agents don't retire but they become listless.  🙃

I could retire at any point, the only differnce is the quality of said retirement.  The longer I wait, the better it will be.  I should have all my homes paid off in 5-7 years and then it'll be very nice and easy to retire.

Yes, I am finished in Nov. I have done my succession planning, I started the planning last year. I turned 65 in Feb. I feel it's time to travel (when we are able to) and not worry about work.

As long as opportunities keep coming up I am not sure that retirement is possible.

However I did agree to take a 3 month semi vacation trip in 2022, looking forward to vacationing and working from a camper van on a cross continental trip.

I already retired once. After 30 years of being a Professional DJ, I retired into my 22 year (so far) Real Estate Career. Yes, there was overlap, lol, I'm not in my 70's yet.

Unless I become a famous chef, no plans to retire from real estate. I'd go bonkers not working. I'll certainly cherry pick clients as I get older.

My grandmother worked as the Broker of Record in her own

Nelson Real Estate Company into her 80's,

so not bloody likely I'll retire in the next 30 years. 😉

I retired from a 30 year career in corporate america and was bored after a few weeks. So here I am! I have no desire to retire because I feel like I can do all the things I want to do AND continue to manage a real estate business. But perhaps my answer will be different in 5 years....

Already debt free but that's not the carrot on the end of the stick to keep the listing, marketing, selling (repeat) cycle going. I grew up on a farm, am more of a vocation than vacation person and work does not feel like labor. If you reinvent how you "practice" real estate, it is not ho hum or boring and you meet, help so many interesting folks. Building and maintaining a business is sport. Real estate is a jealous master.

I would but you know those "customers for life" when they stop calling me that will be the signal. It helps being a 3rd generation agent because the plans to retire went into effect when I first began. Hard to give up a good thing!

Definitely have been working towards retirement.   Turned 65 this year, house paid off next year, and brought on an agent that can take my business if/when I am traveling.    Feel like I have my exit strategy in place.   Still think I won't retire completely, just will have longer time off.

I have no plans to retire and will probably be involved with real estate in some fashion until I drop. That's the beauty of real estate, it allows one to change the way they do business when they want or need to make a change. I have been debt free for years and had a taste of retirement on two occasions after surgeries and it's not for me. I was bored and restless after a week and could not wait to get back to work.

Well that was the plan last year to wrap things up but  the phone kept ringing and I love working/helping our long time clients buy and sell.  I enjoy it. So I'm 'kind of' retired.  Where I'm at is a great place to be!!

I have definitely been thinking of a way to exit.  The answer seems to be create a team and get other people doing work as well, or a small brokerage.  Have more income than just mine and have something to sell when the time to retire comes.

I'm looking at the end of the year myself... I'm 72, have very manageable debt, mortgage-free,  no car payment etc.... After 41 years in commission sales (automotive and real estate) it's just time to do it... On that note, is my list of past clients marketable, or do they belong to my broker?... You think about things like this when you get to the point I've found myself.
