Peter, I think that Ken Jones has a valid point. When living in Lake Tahoe, there are agents who have a license in CA as well as in Nevada. Nina Hollander, Broker is licensed in both North Carolina and South Carolina and she works in both states...I would investigate before leaping anywhere or for any reason. A

I would assume they did the work to get the license. I would assume nothing else but would ask them.

Depends on what you mean by active.... my primary license is in NC, but I have an SC license and 40% of my sales are in SC, but in two counties of SC only.

I know a few agents that do this successfully. How I don't know but they appear to manage things quite well.

I would assume that they have some level of activity in those states, otherwise what would be the point of holding the license? The question from me would be what is their primary state and how much of their business is done in that state versus the others (if I was looking for their secondary state).
On AR we have "Vegas Bob" and Hella M. Rothwell, Broker/Realtor® who operate in multiple states and look to do a fair amount of business in both successfully.

You may wish to trust the advertisements but verify the information that is important for you. Sales and listings can help with the validation.

I avoid assuming anything. If it is something I need to know, I research, investigate, and ask questions.

In the time it took to pose this question and read the responses, you could have checked those "several states," and made this question moot.
It's free to check real estate licenses online.

I would verify that. However, having said that, I have seen an agent who is also a broker licensed both in Texas and Florida. He has listings in both states.

Depends on the states. Here, where 3 states intersect, it's very likely!

I would say they better be active in those states. We have some agents here that sell in IL & WI.

It seems like a waste to spend all that money to maintain a license and dues in two states without being active.
Of course I see agents all the time that never get around to being active, so they could be inactive in both states.
Best to ask them or check them out if it is important to you.

By active, do you mean that they help clients and customers buy and sell real estate in those states? Or that they hold the license, but don't actually conduct any business other than referrals?
In your area (and mine) it is not uncommon for licensees to hold Florida, Georgia, and Alabama licenses. Some want the license for their Ego Wall or the Credentials Page of their website; some have it "just in case", some actually do business in multiple States.
If they claim to have active licenses, and you check that State's Real Estate Commission website (per Brian L. Sirota, Esq. answer), and they are NOT licensed, then of course they are liars. Depending upon the severity of their misrepresentation, consider reporting them to that State's real estate commission.

I am with Brian L. Sirota, Esq. on this one.
If I cared about the issue, say because I was dealing with such an agent, I would check.

Assume not. Do not leap unless you know where you might land! Many are active in more than one state and many are just licensed.

Research and verify. Could be active referral agents? It's common for agents in this area to be licensed in VA, MD, DC, and sometimes WV.
