Is it covered?  Trex last longer in our experience in weather, but it sure does get really hot in the sun to the point shoes must be worn the majority of the summer the majority of the day. We went back to treated lumber.

No idea. My balconies are concrete in a downtown Chicago hirise. I will be reading the comments of others because if the violence in Chicago continues, you never know!

Trex seems to be the decking material of choice around here. Can't say I'm familiar with some of the other materials you mentioned, Fred.

Use a lot of Maine cedar. On lake docks, aluminum saves deck replacement.

What kind of installation are you planning? DIY? Trex is the easiest to install.  I recommend Fiberon not all plastic Aztec.  EVERY company has different grades and density and price. Whatever you do - do not buy filler wrapped anything (available in all brands). I saw Cali-bam-deck in a beach front that gets ocean salt water surge on it every day outlast Aztec on two houses in Capo beach - (neighbors).    Another answer to the next question- the only maintenance you need is Dawn soap and water with clean mop: end of summer and beginning of spring.

In all honesty, it is all Trex to me, since it seems to be the early one to get to market and really get their name in my head. I have also heard of AZEK, but do not know the differences between all of the different brands.

When we needed to do replace our rotting cedar deck, my husband did the research and decided on Trex. It's a little pricier, but seemed the best in terms of durability and wear. Gets really hot in the sun, but they probably all do.

No substitute for Real Wood.

I would go with treated pine

Fred, when Trex became popular here, it looked good and buyers favored it.

But...after a few seasons of winter snow and leaves, the accumulated dark stains could not be removed.  Ugh.

Let me know if anyone has come across a product that actually cleans them to look good if not new.

TimberTech, Trex, and Wolf are all good quality and popular with homeowners and builders in this area. You can compare these 3 here: https://lansingbp.com/product/decking-railing/

I would say Trex. You know if you contact Mike Holmes on FB or his site he answers questions like this. I just saw a discussion on this recently.
