The RIGHT CHARLOTTE REALTOR!

So, Fred, I actually had a copperhead in my hosue a couple of years ago! THANKFULLY before we went to bed, we were able to kill it!

We did a LOT of research and here is what we do and have never had an issue...sprinkle a bag of LIME (from the garden center) around the perimeter of your house. Dash a drop every foot of PEPPERMINT OIL (that you get at the drug store) on top of the lime and VOILA! We have not had any further issues!

Prior to the time we found the one in our kitchen, our landscaper had killed several in our yard. After we used the lime and peppermint, we didn't see one single copperhead!

I am in your area so, I KNOW what you are going through!! Good Luck, Fred!

I've been fighting rabbits for months now.  I've tried bad smelling granules (like Pete Xavier mentioned), a "no rabbits allowed" sign and finally the best solution was to build an inpenetrable wall by putting chicken wire on my wrought iron fencing to keep them out.  Working well so far.

I mention this story because I've heard people mention snake fencing before.  I suggest securing your perimeter with that type of fencing to keep all but the most determined snakes away.

Get rid of every mouse, rat, small critters (get the plank and 5 gallon bucket).  Seal off every entry with 1/4 inch galvanized and steel wool.  No pet food, no bird food no fruit trees or vegetables left overnight on the ground. Cut back vegetation such as grass to be able to see them and they don't like travelling in the open.  Get firewood off the ground. Don't leave piles of things next to doors or on sides of house.

Put up an owl bird house. They eat them. What are the native hawks near you?

Gallon of clove oil, 2 gallons of cheap ammonia, and gallon cinnamon oil  order here: https://bulknaturaloils.com/clove-bud-oil.html?gclid=CjwKCAjwnPOEBhA0EiwA609RebRaxY6cmLkyOUw3x3acJDK1L9WHTH544wUiFDj_hj8oJKD4VNNYSRoCQMMQAvD_BwE   Soak the oils in old rags and spray after ever time it rains the perimeter of the house.

Trap them and drive them 30 miles away to open field.

Fred,

In Napa, raptors rule especially in the vineyards. We had resident owls in our acreage.  And many wineries have raptor bird houses, and they get all eat those critters, what they leave behind the TV (turkey vultures clean up).  Even in our marsh reserves which are near our home, there are raptor bird houses, so we see both bald and golden eagles...

Nothing scares me more than snakes. Can't even bear to look at pictures of them. I know here in Charlotte there are companies that come and spray your land to keep them away.

Best way would be to control any mice/rat population that may be in the area. Take away the food and they will move on. Luckily, copperheads are present in only a relatively small area of Florida. Unfortunately, often other harmless snakes like corn snakes are mistaken for them.

I am not sure if this works or not, but it seems to say a bunch of what some others have posted, like Debe Maxwell, CRS. I found this with a quick search, Getting Rid of Copperheads. IF this doesn't work, you can always move to Hawaii or Alaska. They are venomous snake free.

Move to where you don't have them is one option. What does a Copperhead fear? Order a bunch of those on Amazon.

I do not think there is any proven way to keep them away. I lived in a remote area for many years and tried everything. Someone told me that horse hair keeps them away, but I am skeptical.

The best you can do is keep any food source, mice, rabbits, etc out of your yard. I tried chicken wire, but a Diamondback got stuck in the chicken wire and I had to pull it out.

Good luck.

Birds of prey excel in making snakes go away. Barring that, snakes sneak around and come and go as they please. Consider that they keep what they prey on in check (rats etc.)...That's all I know
