I've had agents request help with showing homes in the past. There are a ton of reasons why someone who has a showing scheduled might all of a sudden need help. Things like illness, a broken ankle, a family emergency, etc.
I don't think anything is new or strange in terms of this.

I will be glad to assist you. Would you prefer to pay my hourly rate, or would you rather pay me a percentage of the commission at closing?

People are desperate to visit homes as soon as they come on the market. Waiting until later or tomorrow might be too late.

I have had to ask for help when a family emergency called me out of town...it happens. Lack of planning or laziness is another matter.

Yes. We use showing agents. Sometimes it isn't even about how busy you are. Getting a time slot to see a house can be challenging. Getting it for a time you're actually available to show the house is even more difficult. I work with a lot of people moving to the area. I also work with sellers. Sometimes, I need help because I have people in town and they overlap other scheduled appointments.

It pays to have a network of agents ready to help with showings when we cannot.

My agent had a broker ask if she could show her listing, but when the time came, she did get there. We are seeing some showings being limited to 15 minutes, some 30 minutes. She was coming from 45 min away.

It really depends on who it is. In real life, you help your friends & they shouldn't think you work for free.
I've often found that the agents that want your help for $50 are usually at the basketball or baseball game. They are not prioritizing their business. I won't prioritize theirs.

According to the local association, the real estate agent business is down nerly 67%. I imagine there are agents who will do anything to keep the lights on.
It should be noted that 'hiring' agent is making clear what the value of an agent really is, in their opinion. The agent accepting that 'gig' should come equipped with the appropriate signage.

Thanks all for the comments!
And yes it's true must of us will be willing to cover each other. But I'm seeing more and more request on Facebook and other places to asking for help in showing an agent's buyers. In fact I even found a showing service that was recommended by an agent; Showami | Showing Agent Service | Showing Agents on Demand
But I'm wondering were does the agent's (buyer's) fiduciary duty come in to play here!!!

Starnge Times? Only if you've been under a rock with your careeer.
Busy agents always ask for help in our office.
Newer agents love to be busy - so they help and learn.
Not strange. Smart.

I basically do what's in best interest of seller. If a buyer agent can't make it, but buyers can, I'll try to show it.

With COVID showing protocols in my state - showings are by appointment only and made by the buyer's agent ... appointment is confirmed when the 4 page COVID form is signed and received by the listing agent.
By default, that means, buyers must be working with an agent willing to show the property.

Agent's showing homes for each other has been happening since the beginning of time. I've helped agents and received help from others ever since getting into the business. Paying an agent for their time makes the most sense. Trading off showings is okay but is rarely equal since some agents are busier than others. And sharing a commission for an hour's work is hardly fair to the agent who needs help. I love the idea of a faster and easier way to get help when needed.

We have a lot of agents from other areas coming to our market and don't have the access to our electronic lockboxes yet... They always need the listing agent's assistance for access.
