This has been hotly debated in the Rain for years. AR keeps telling us that it's not against the rules here... but if you ask me, it's highly annoying and I wish we had some limitations.

Robo posters clog the blog roll and this was similar to a question of mine yesterday in the chat session of the Zoom meeting. They have zero engagement here with anyone and use AR as a launch site to send out their messages.

This has been a source of blog roll frustration and discussion for as long as I can remember. Not sure why they can't space them out but as far as I know nothing can be done because it's an automatic rollout from the agent's personal blog.

     ActiveRain wants Blog posts, because blog posts create SEO and keep the site relevant.

      But maybe ActiveRain should consider  S P R E A D I N G   T H E M  O U T.   

     A page filled with market reports is a wall of words; anybody landing on it will hit the backspace.

This is not just 20 posts per day... more like 250+ posts per day as you can see in the stats above for what I believe is the worst offender. There should absolutely be a limit per day and I've already shared this stat with HQ with so far no action taken. More voices the better to get this looked into. It makes our main blog feed completely unusable for us to find blogs to read. It completely demolishes the actual user experience. I'm not sure what part of the community guidelines this breaks but common fellow member decency should be in there somewhere :)

Or, at least, only show x posts per day on the blogroll per user.

I would even go further and slap a noindex tag on posts above x.

It seems like some members are posting computer generated pages with data from the MLS. There's no way these pages are created by hand.

For now, the view by ownership is let it ride as long as they stick to real estate posts.

We've been told the approach may be reconsidered at some point (perhaps filtering of all posts that don't allow comments so they don't show on the main blog roll?), but for now, either be prepared to click Next Page frequently, or stick to the people you Follow.

Rocky I agree. I'd like to at the least see a limit. This has been going on since the start of AR and I don't think there is anything that can be done about it at this point.  I just ignore them and move on to what I find interesting.

Maybe, some could visit those market reports and make the care and feeding of them unprofitable.
Those who shamelessly abuse a process are most likely to adjust their behavior when they experience shame.
Or, we can twiddle our thumbs and speculate why some what to get out of  here.
Seems the only pleasant place is the Q&A. Too much baggage with everything else.
Should they put a limit? Of course.
Why don't they? There must be another game afoot.

I question whether the idea of banding together to restrict another agent's legal marketing practices is wise...or even legal.

I am against any such group practice!

I am against restricting the marketing activity of the agents who post one, a few or many market reports/updates.

From a consumers standpoint, they provide a lot of good information.  Wonder where they get it from? I used to blog about interesting things that I saw and experienced in and around the Monterey Peninsula.  It ate up a lot of my time, and can't really say if I got any business out of it although I did get the odd phone call from people asking about the opening hours of shops etc.  In fact, I had to take a few down as they changed hands, so I quit writing about that sort of thing. These days I just have a hard time restarting blogging, only go to the Q&A section. Business has been brisk without it, so that's my excuse.  Do miss writing though.  One of these days.

I'm not bothered by anyone else's business model.  People don't find activerain and then find me.  They google something local and find a blog and so consumers probably never see those stacks of market reports.

Been discussed 100's of times ..... either do something (like a lynch mob) or nothing is going to be done.

This agent is using AR now as his personal blogging platform. If that is OK with Ben Kinney, then it is OK with me. He's listed like over 100,000 posts.

The question for me Rocky Dickerson, can the AR system handle the overload of these bulk posts when messages appear that prevent us from logging in or finishing a well thought out post with a "SYSTEM IS EXPERIENCING HEAVY USE" message. Is it the blasting of these bulk posts that is slowing down the system? Jeff

IMHO, blogging is one's personal & professional voice. Some blog recipes, some only stats, and some a mix of flavors. I enjoy listening to the many different blogging voices, and when I don't, I just move on - unless it's pages upon pages upon pages of stats. It has led me away from AR many, many times and it makes it impossible to discover new-to-me talent. 

Emphasis should be on authenticity and a robo-posting of market reports is anything but. Perhaps that is where a professional blogging site should draw a line? 

I could definitely do with much less of it - who has to time to publish 250 reports daily anyway? But what do the expert say about this bombardment of stats on the regular? Does it hurt or aid our Google driven reputation and discoverability and evaluation of quality content?
