Hold both FL and MI broker licenses since I have a second home in St. Joseph, MI and spend a lot of time there Fred. The two markets are quite different because of the intense northern migration to SWFL and the comparatively stable St. Joe real estate market.

Fred, I'm licensed in VA, WV and MD. I can get to Hagerstown, MD in 45 minutes. Here in the Shenandoah Valley, I sell up and down the valley. It just made sense since I had a number MD buyers coming into my market, but they also needed to sell a home.

Yes, I am in CT, bordering on NY State and have a NY license, but find that without being on their MLS, it can be of limited use. Had a Florida license by mutual recognition (had to take a 40-question FL law test - it was tricky!) when we had a condo in Miami.

I live about 1 mile from my border state and have chosen not to get my license there. I stay busy just taking care of the local business here.  Having said this, there are a number of agents here who have multiple licenses. On the flip side it is also beneficial to do Referrals.
