Do you know how I prevent saying the word wrong? 

In 30 years in this biz, I have never referred to myself as a realator, realtor, realter, realitor, real estate agent or anything similiar...I do not want to be lumped into the same catagory of realtors that don't know what they are doing.

I seriously don't care how it is pronounced...I only care if the agent knows how to read the contract...or pay me the referral fees that they agreed to.

It boggles the mind, Bob. I can understand when a member of the public might mispronounce, but for a Realtor... it's unforgivable.

It amazes me when I hear Realtors, Lenders, and others pronounce it in a number of ways other than Real-tor.

I have actually received critisism for proper enunciation.
Seriously, it is not a 'possum.'
Then there's the Amadillo, a Spanish word pronounced exactly like the 'll' in quesadilla.
Realator is an effort to reach the lowest common demoninator. And, she's a Top Producer. Maybe we have succumbed to consentual delusion. It seems how Realtor is pronounced matters little to the LCD.

I know lots of "Top Producers" who can't manage to say it properly.  I don't know how we can expect the public to get it right, when we "Real-A-Tors" can't manage.

Two factors are at play here. The first is that NAR did not take time to correct those early agents who were not advised about REALTOR and its correct pronuciation. Second is if my multi-million dollar customers want to add an extra "a" into the word who am I to argue with their flagrant mistaken action.

I have a best friend that's hispanic and pronounces my name "Yon".  When he expresses humor in text instead of "haha" he types "jajajaja"

He's an awesome person, great father, husband, and friend, and I don't really care how he pronounces anything.

I feel the same about Realtors.  If they're doing a great job and representing the profession by serving their clients, and communities, I don't care about pronunciation, ALLCAPS, a little r with a cirle around it, or anything else.  I'll take a great agent that calls themself a "reeliter" over a shoddy one who calls themselves a Realtor and types it ALLCAPS with the registered trademark symbol.
