I do not give a rat's bottom about any sports team or players.

The people who make a living supporting the players are important - but the players themselves? I really think the majority come across as overpaid toddlers.

The very existence of this question shows the impact of professional athletes using their celebrity and popularity and the popularity of their sports to make a social (not political) statement.

Hi Will- You know how much I love sports but as long as they want to make it a political/social message thing then I'm not watching. I am concerned as is Ron and Alexandra Seigel about the many people who depend on these games for their livelihood.

And I also agree that if they truly want to make a difference donate their salary to a grassroots effort that would actually make a difference.

Will,

I do not agree or disagree.  What I think is that is that this may affect those who are making $$ as a result of the game being played!  At this point, many need their income.  A

NOPE! Not at all and if I was a team owner, I'd be calling up the "B team" immediately and send these over-egod fools home.  This is their JOB/CAREER.  They need to DO THEIR JOB and leave the grandstanding and political statements out of it.  Yup.  There's my opinion.

We now have leagues of political pundits in various uniforms that make a lot of money. They feel the eed to substitute their opinion for their given talents. We used to have sports teams. I miss the old days! But I do have great memories!

Politics should not mix with sports. In the end the change they are preaching will leave less change in their pockets !! Pro sports can dry up and become dust in the wind as far as I'm concerned !

I have rarely watched any sports since they became politicized. Other than feeling for the people who have to make a living through sports (like the hot dog vendors, etc), I wouldn't care if professional sports ever came back. They could stay canceled and I'd be fine.

Hmm, only if the kids running the McDonalds drive up window can close down the store.
SInce the moment of the Nike Kneelers, the releveance of sports has meaning only to the cult emmersed in it.

By the way, COLLEGE sports should be elminated and those who want to play sports should be hired by the professional sports leagues and paid accordingly. Lets put education back into education.

They might as well. Not many people watching their over paid tantrums. No NBA and No MLB for me. My Red Sox have let me down and lost half their fans and viewers. I am hoping hockey does not bow down.

I don't watch sports but it seems they are quickly making themselves irrelevant. Wonder what other skills they have?

As most of them have guaranteed salaries, it does not make a difference to them!

Also as it will affect the bottom line from the boob tube stations, we will just follow the money trail!

Oh and have not and will not!

No, not as a fan.  The athletes have much more to lose than the fans.  They will lose millions of dollars and a year of they short career.
