I'm sure they are told to film in the rain! It's probably a ratings thing.

I have seen instances where they have staged the weather and it isn't as bad as what they are showing.  I saw one video where a guy was acting like it was the end of the world but in the background you can see people casually walking through it, haha.

What I see are 120 lbs FEMALE reporters being held in place in invisible hands basicly saying, "Don't do as I do, do as I say, Run to the high ground!"
And, 'I'm a trained professional."
Like ALL news reporting, their is nothing professional, and they are looking to blame the hurricane on someone running for or holding an office.

It's to give the viewer the maximum experience of what's going on. Anybody that watches news especially lately knows that it's designed to appeal to your emotions. If it bleeds it leads! So make it look good and scary and painful.

It's that Jim Cantore guy - he started it with standing out in hurricanes! It is odd though isn't it? Watch me get blow down this parking lot folks ....

They love weather... the chance to be "you are live, we take you to the eye of the storm... (whipping wind, drenching rain sounds)". No, but I have to admit Peter that I kind of enjoy watching them as the wind is blowing and the rain slashing. It is captivating. Also Gene Kelly and Singing in the Rain! Jeff

Somehow it is supposed to be more dramatic...I agree with you, they look like fools and I root for the weather. 

I cant remember the last time I saw the weather on TV, much more effective to look it up on the internet.

Pictures often give a better sense of what is happening than do words.

You will see reporters outside in the hellish weather in the coastal areas of Texas and Louisiana on the news today.

I don't think it's their choice.  Standing in Hurricane Laura, now that's nuts.

To exaggerate the situation. Seems like every weather report has to say they see rotation and a tornado is possible.
