If you are a person who values an honest, ethical life style, it does not matter whether you are in the real estate industry or selling shoes.  Of course, we follow a code of Ethics...

It is a good idea to follow the Code of Ethics to stay out of trouble.

However, the most important element is to protect your reputation.

As a Realtor and member of the National Association of Realtors as well as my Local and State Associations, I am bound by the Realtor Code of Ethics.

Those who are not member of NAR are not bound by the COE. Yet, we certainly expect them to act in an ethical manner.

If you are not an ethical person, you should be held accountable for your transgressions...in real estate and in all areas of your life.

By following the REALTOR 'Code of Ethics' one will not misrepresent, deliver false data, participate, encourage or practice deception or engage in exaggeration.

However, the Ten Commandments' possess a more eternal meaning to ethics and no time off when not on duty.

We need look no further than the proliferation of TEAMS to understand what the Code of Ethics is really about. TEAMS check ALL the wrong boxes and they are all REALTORS.

If you are a person of integrity, I believe unknowingly you will be following the code of ethics.  We must adhere to them.  For those that do not is what gives REALTORS® a bad rap.
