Yes, they have.  I personally think it should be rewarded even with a no or yes answer.  For example, if I ask whether someone has heard of xyz company and what they think of it.  I can take a poll from the answers, how many people have heard of this company.  To me, that's statistic.

Oh my, you missed the big brouhaha! For days the people who loved the change, the people who hated the change, the people who hated the after-the-fact notification, the people who didn't care either way posted lots of "pointless" answers to questions about the points. Hahahaha. Anyway, yes, we get points for upvoting answers, but no points for answering.

That happened a short while ago Brian England. Have noticed a little decline in particiption but nothing major...still getting short answers and the "I don't know" responses but that is part of answering. 

Points here in the Q & A have never been a driving factor for me and some members like it better this way.

You are correct.  There is always someone who makes things bad for others ... it's unfortunate that people abused the system just to get points ... but, it is what it is ... and AR Q&A is still a place to go for getting some good information.  It's not the points that draw me here ... it's the people and the questions.  If I read a question and don't have something to say I move on. Just sayin.

For every person this pleases they have lost another. Not just point "mongers" but also people who contributed valuable answers & are pissed off that they don't get credit for it now. People just find new ways to get the points though, so they did not solve anything & lost many people's  participation & interest, myself included.
