I do it as an ongoing prcess. As i use it, as i send out mailing or emails. 

I usually do a "full scrub" on my data base twice a year and re-classify, update contact info and update which distribution lists (newsletters, certain pop bys, etc) they're on.  Routine updates happen as an ongoing process. 

No, once in there they stay, many long after death.

I wean & glean to the bare minimum sort of like pruning. Simpler the better

We do purges regularly.

I rarely "cleaned" my database of contacts unless I knew they died or moved away. You never know when someone will have a need for your services... even years later. 

I do every year, but rarely do I take someone off the list.  If I find out their contact information is no longer good, then I remove them from the list immediately.

I never kept a database of names and contact info when I was active.... I was listing subdivisions of single family homes and condos..... carried me through to the end of my active days...

Yes at the middle of the year and the end of the year I check all my data to see if the email is still working or just call them to check in.  

If I find a need to make a change, I do it. Mainly because an email bounces or mail is returned or a phone number does not work. Life changes and we all deal with people whose lives may be in flux.

Not too often but at the moment I'm switching CRM's so it's a good time to do so. It is painfully slow.

You get notices when email are incorrect.

I make changes with their email soon as I get new ones, and if they unsubscribe to my enewsletter, I still leave them in my database.

Honestly no I don't delete.  I pause, unsubscribe when people ask, but I don't delete the contact.  I probably have 25 dead people's old phone numbers in my phone.  Yes, I'm a hoarder.

I have an unsubscribe on all emails but don't know if any of those being sent are going to spam.  I clean my data base with every mail out.  Emails take care of themselves.  I want a clean data base and do what I can to protect it.

It is ongoing but, right now, I am doing a full-on clean-up, Peter! We have an incredibly robust system coming out and I am, for the first time since I first started a database, going to have it ship-shape the day the entire system goes live!
