Price point doesn't matter.

I'm sure you asked her interests, her favorite foods, restaurants, etc. Go with what you know about her. Don't listen to the AR stingy, a thank you gift is what separates you from the average. Or, take her to lunch or dinner and pick up the check before she leaves.

I don't do closing gifts. I do, however, do personalized housewarming gifts for my home buyers. By now you'd hopefully know enough about your client to send her a nice housewarming gift for her new home. In the meantime, send her a personal note thanking her for the opportunity to sell her home.

That's me. If she's a teetotaler, you may need to send something lovely and personalized. Does she like artwork? A gorgeous throw for the new place? Something that can be enjoyed at the new place? A gift card for a nearby restaurant or shopping center? YOU know your client - what would she like?

The best closing gift is GREAT service throughout the transaction sandy straley . When I did give a gift (beyond terrific service) it was a $50.00 gift certificate to Menards Home Center so they could pick up some touch-up stuff for their new home.

I know a lot of agents do closing gifts. I think it really depends on the agent, the client, the deal, and the future. Do you want them to keep in touch with you? If yes, get something they will see often. Do you just want to say thanks? Then a bottle of whatever they like to drink which will be gone soon. Whatever feels right.

I find that gift cards work very well. You can do an internet search for a nice restaurant and get them a gift card.

You can give gift card to a store that will furnish some item of value...Home Depot or Lowes for instance.

You can give a generic card...MasterCard or Visa for instance or Amazon.

All are appreciated.

Warm well wishes ... a thank you for allowing me to represent you in the sale of your home, and if they are open to it, a farewell hug. I do stay connected to clients that move out of the area.  I sent birthday cards and holiday cards. When they return to the area to visit family we typically meet up for lunch or dinner. If there is a "gift" involved it is very unique personal and represents a token of my appreciation. It is not one size fits all.

I don't do closing gifts, nor do I believe in them.  However if I were, it would be something practical and something personalized.  I helped the son of a friend of mine buy his first house.  He loves to cook and he and his roommate were friends of Jack Daniels.  I got him a color coded set of cutting boards (fish, chicken, veggies, etc) from Costco and a Costco sized ginormous bottle of Jack Daniels.  No branding of mine, no cards and was given as a housewarming gift specifically in person.  They were VERY happy!  Price point of the property does not matter.

It varies.  My $4.55M Pebble Beach buyer this summer really liked a framed Concours d' Elegance poster the seller had in the stairway, so I purchased it from the seller and it stayed in the home when she moved in.  She LOVED it and invited me to the event the following weekend.

For more wealthy clients, hosting/paying for a farewell or housewarming party is a great way to re-invest the money you made and build relationships for potential future transactions.

Some other ideas include:

- framed historic maps of the city or state (great talking piece)

- smart home tech like a Nest or Ecobee thermostat (saves them money, also great talking piece)

- tickets to a concert or sports event (if they're into that)

- take them out to eat (build that relationship)

- a nice bottle of wine

- donation to a charity or local food bank

You can find more ideas & inspiration, click here.

What sort of things does she like? I recently gave one couple dog bone ornaments with their dogs names on them because they love Christmas and they love their dogs. It was personal to them. They had two high end closings with me. I'm also giving them a gift certificate to a nice steak restaurant so they can celebrate. It wasn't just about their price point though. I give closing baskets for my buyers. I try to think outside of the box for sellers. Sometimes they just get insulated corkcicle cups (think Yeti) with my logo. It may be a nice bottle of wine if they're wine enthusiast however, that can be very personal for true wine enthusiast.

Depends on the kind of person the agent is. Those who see $550.000 are most likely to meet this obligation with a purchase of relative value. Mission accomplished.

However the better agent will see a transformational opportunity. This takes more effort from the agent but will far outlive the expiry date of a bottle of wine and will be a source of refreshment and strength the rest of their clients days. After all, the exceptional agent will have observed their client, asked intelligent, probing questions and come to know them at a level seldom available to acquaintances. This may be ones last chance to touch them in a meaningful way.
