I'm totally okay with that, but it's for me, not for them. I'm abundant, I can spread it around. And I get it back multiplied.

It depends on the situation whether I leave anything or not. I don't have a hard and fast rule.

They have provided a service by taking my order - if they are kind and polite, I feed the jar.  

I also tip when I pick up a take-out order.  

Buffets are a standard $1-$2. tip, on occasion more, based my dining experience at Golden Corral.

Just depends on the service being offered. If I am at a Buffet and I got all my own food but the waiter brought me my drink and the bill I'd tip them but it'd be equal to the service received. 

I feel sorry for employees in restaurants and those who work retail- they get minimum wage and people are often unkind. Even if it is self sit without a waiter bringing to the table, someone cleans the table, stocks the napkins and smiles

Hey, if they are polite and strive to please, I do tip - even with carry-out.

It's on a case by case basis but more often than not, I do. We are in a tourist town with a lot of small businesses that are family owned and operated so I like to support the locals.

As with many things... "it depends". Much of the "depends" is related to attitude of the one(s) serving me.  Those who act like they are doing me a favor by being there... NO.  Those who seem to be glad I am there... YES!

I may or may not use it.  Often I will stop by after I finish to drop a tip in, depending on the service after I order.

You would be surprised at the difference in service you can receive at Take Out when you leave a buck or two. Not all establishments deserve a perk but that's usually brought on by poor management, not the staff! Whether you do or don't tip I can assure you they'll soon know who you are when you're a "regular".

No.  If they do not provide service, there is NO tip.  TIPs were originally at the start of the meal and it's an acronym for "To Insure Promptness".

We have many self serve type places here.  No tip.

No I do not. Perfect example here is Einstein Bagels. You do all the work & there is that tip jar. It's cafeteria style with a cash register at the end.

I am not as likely to put a tip in a jar at a counter unless someone has "wowed" me. 

To pay someone for caring, serving or liking YOU causes one to inquire: How much is enough? After all, the food/location was the draw not the people working there. If someone exceeds an expectation, it becomes self-evident & we like it. A further question: Do we pay additional to have over & above? The three main draws in the restaurant industry are: 1. service 2. food 3. ambiance. What if I just want food? Ambiance? To pay someone to serve you? Whats next? To pay me to eat there? It's already being done via coupons & discounts. There are places that refuse tipping. They keep the focus on what counts i.e. that is the promise the place puts out

If I often go to a place I will tip; otherwise no.

If I like the meal , I have no problem with tipping.

It really depends on the attitude of the person behind the counter. Sometimes yes, but many times no! They have to earn it!

Yes I have. I worked that type of business while in college...these days it's hard to live on that pay.

I tip where appropriate when I feel the service deserves it I tip more.
