Page content needs to be a minimum of 2,000 words. My posts are much shorter and generally link to pages on my sites. Many theories on this topic. Great quality content is better than a lot of shorter pieces.
Writing and posting anything is better than nothing at all. Yet, if that does not produce results one would want to re-think why they are doing it.

There's no set minimum amount of words. Write as much or as little as you need to have a blog post that makes sense.
Some subjects will need 3000 words, others will need 500.
If you feel the need to add fluff and repeat yourself in a blog post for the sake of reaching some artificial number, you are doing it wrong.

There are many opinions on this subject. A quick Google search shows:
The optimal length of a blogpost is around 1600 words. Longer posts generally perform better in search. Posts that are more than 2000 words receive more social shares. The average word length for a blogpost found in the first 5 positions of Google was 2400 words.
As for me, I prefer the short succinct posts. I'd rather read a series of shorter posts but, apparently, Google gives more authority to the longer posts. But, you can't fill them will fluff.

Google thinks "Bigger is better." I'm seeing experts saying 2000+ words with lots of pictures, subheadings, etc. For me, that's around 1800 words too many to read.

OH my! You will likely have as many opinions as people answering on this one, Peter!
I have heard 2K but, I hate adding 'fluff' to something that can be said in 200 -500 words.
Say you write a post that's 2,000 words - then in a year, Google's criteria changes. Do you go back and delete 1/2 of the post to prevent being impacted by the bots?
Writing content for the consumer is what I do. My site may not rank well but, I prefer the few who do find my site, find it credible & informative enough to pick up the phone and give me a call.

What Alexandra said. Content may be king, but your unique voice is what will draw business to you. I search, then scroll down to see what actually calls out to me from a sea of the same stuff.

Peter,
I do not care about google and its army of bots. I care about results and dollars in the bank. I write to express my experience and hopefully be read. A

Need to be of original content. Something stands out with annotation, references and backlinks.
Images need to have meaningful titles.
Very hard as the rules constantly change.

To be honest, I am not worried about words. I put in some key words that can be noticed when consumers are searching. I put an many words as it takes to get my subject and message across.

If content plus or minus was a consistent factor everyone would be doing what it took. Instead, I see: here today- gone tomorrow dynamics. This is an ongoing quest & requires full time attention to achieve Google Page one top to bottom constantly. Either you hire staff or you do it. This involve money or time as fuel. I deal with it this way. I work my little world/sphere of influence & monitor my personal radar. My portion comes to me

no, content is king as in #1. Google prefers like 1000-1200 words which I personally think is excessive.
I do not agree with Dario as this has been discussed here ad nauseum. In fact mention of it on another Q just last week from other SEO people.

Yes, there is more too it than the number of words.
Here is the reality, a blog post can not be too long, only too boring.
Write right and the reader goes on the journey and will not be counting words.
I find creating pillar posts, those comprehensive blogs about a topic, followed by repeater links and reference to the Pillar Post makes all the gods happy.

I'm confused! Just make sure it's original, worthy of reading, good content and not too short ... not too long (don't have time to read a novel) and proper linkage to your website and other pertinent sites.

Google like other platforms are now moving to video. The coaches are stressing using video to reach more. The younger set won't take the time to read whereas they will click on a short video.
