I believe we all need to do what we need to do for our self and for our business. If you believe in honoring the Sabbath then do it. Good heavens. How strong is your belief?  Why does what I believe matter to what you believe?

You have the right to run your real estate practice as you choose.  This will alienate some and possibly endear you to others. Religion, politics, gender - the reasons to offend or attract are abundant. Find those connections.

I guess that depends on how you define religious. I have my faith, but it doesn't mean I don't work on a Sunday. I used to work on Sundays when I was in the corporate world, as well. It's not just a real estate thing.

At the end of the day it's about setting expectations. If you don't work on Sundays make sure your clients know about it upfront. You might consider having a back-up agent for you for Sundays when needed and provide the same to that agent when they need back up on another day.

Although I have great faith in God Devere Wilkey I hope I'm never "religious"! I know people who are religious about their coffee at Starbucks, going to the gym any chance they get, their sports team, etc, etc. I hope I'm known for my love of God and how well I treat my fellow man BUT not for being religious.

As a Realtor it's hard to avoid working on Sundays. Here in ND Sunday is typically open house day. The key here is if you enjoy your work it's not work! I enjoy helping people and if it leads to a sale or not it was always enjoyable to help people.

Devere,

We practice unconditional love religiously, and believe me it takes practice.  We work to meet our clients' needs.   We respect each and every religion, and we are aware of religious practices as it may affect our clients.  Some religions have Saturday as their holy day, and others Sunday, and others are called to prayer several times a day...

We take off and have time to ourselves any day of the week, it really does not  matter to us.  A

Religion is so personal. Am I religious? Probably more than most people you'll meet, though someone usually has to get married or die for me to enter a church.

Is Sunday off limits? Not necessarily, but not for religious reasons. If I have to work Sunday I will, but that doesn't usually extend to an availability in person.

In my life and in my business, Spirit calls the shots! 😇

PS. Inquiries on listings will be responded to via text message or email, full follow up Monday morning. Agents needing assistance w access will get as immediate response as I am able to provide. Clients are warned that not everybody works Sunday.

Devere, I pastored for 20 years and I do sell on Sundays. Jesus has become our sabbath day rest (Heb 3-4). It is wise for our physical health to take a day of rest from our labors, but biblically, it is not a command with the advent and acsention of Christ. Much like a farmer who has to tend his flock seven days a week, somethings call us into the field to work, but our spirtual rest comes from knowing God because we no longer work for our salvation, but rather, we work out our salvation.

Doesn't matter if I'm religious or not, I think that Sunday should some how be returned to a more relaxing day. With that said I try to only work part of it, namely 9 to 2 & that's it.

Really don't do OH's so there is no problem there. I haven't ever had any pushback on my hours.

I have no issues with working on Sundays... unless the Cowboys are playing.  I grew up in real estate with it being a 7 day a week job, even back before cell phones, back before pagers, back when computers were new and fax machines didn't exist and forms were in tripplicate and getting checks with your offer was standard practice.

If I did have some form of "no work on the Sabbath or Shabbat" rule, then I'd have someone cover for me or I'd make sure my clients knew not to expect a call back after that time.

No I am not & I consider it just part of this line of work. Many other professionals also have to work on the weekends ( medical staff & professionals, pharmacysts, retail, wait staff, rec staff, police officers, fire fighters, etc... ). I do respect those who for religious reasons feel the need to follow the "day of rest". I do however respect Rememberance Day.

Most Open Houses are on Sundays. People go to church in morning, then go to their kids sports games, hiking, yard sales, open houses, grocery shopping, cemetery, watch football, etc, etc Sunday afternoons and evenings. Any agent can choose to not work on Sunday, or set their own hours like Sundays Noon-5 only., or whatever. Reliogion and politics are 2 topics I never discuss.

Real estate is a business and everyone will treat it and run it the way they choose.  Choosing hours, days and availability is one of the luxuries we have as business owners.

Clients do not run us unless we allow it.  I do work some Sunday's but most of my work is actually M-F and I have many appointment only listings that some would think that are shown on weekends only -  but I do control my business and it works out.

I am respectful of all religions and expect the same in return.

No. Very, very, very few people of faith would identify themselves as religious.

Most perceive themselves liberated spirits that flow and walk in the light that they have. There is noting in any tradition of religion that is true, including Dec 25.

The question that needs to be asked is, "Do Americans believe deeply enough in ANYTHING for with they will give their life?" Those who say yes run the risk of being labeled RADICALIZED!  And as human nature dictates, we do everything to avoid shame.

Some would argue that working on the day set aside for bringing tithes into the temple is to bare the Mark of the Beast. Others may argue simply having a SS# is to bare the Mark of the Beast.  So goes the issue of the laws of religion.

For those who discipline their lives to remain under the umbrella of Grace, I have the greatest admiration and will adapt to whatever they reveal to be important in their life.

God does not smile or our sacrifice or Sunday Mornings or Wednesday nights. but what HE wants is obedience. And that is UN-AMERICAN.

"I'm so sorry God. I know you were waiting for me at the well, but I had to host an open house. You know God, cause I'm a really busy real estate agent."

And God cries.

And that very clearly describes the AMERICAN walk of faith. Americans find the organization of faith that enables us to live in whatever manner makes us happy and comfortable at the time. Don't be talking about obedience.  And those who do recognize and submit to a greater authority.....we call radicals. It is not a surprise so few understand faith, the seeking and struggle that results. the character building and hope that grows and the resultant courage. But we live as though in fear that obedience will cause ruin. So the real estate agent must be uncommitted should someone choose to jerk their chain.

Devere Wilkey - If you would like to keep your Sundays open, you'll probably want to take a look at new home sales. In your state (Utah) new home communities are closed. So, there you go, you'll get that day off.

In traditional real estate you'll notice that some of your clients may want you to work Sundays. You may want to let your clients know that you have other commitments on Sundays.

I wish you well in your studies.
