If you're going to be driving for Uber or Lyft, you're not going to be doing the things you need to in order to be successful in real estate.  You need to choose.  Maybe if Uber or Lyft supplies fast cash, you should just do that and keep the cash flowing.

Personally, I'm not getting in a car with strangers... as a driver or a passenger.

Just a heads up. While you can earn some "fast cash", just know that there are many downsides.

1. They say drivers earn about $15 per hour (with Lyft drivers earning more). https://rideshareapps.com/how-much-do-lyft-drivers-make/. BUT... that is before (self employed) taxes, gas, and other car expenses.

2. The best money is earned on holidays and peak times. Peak times are 10pm to 3am - the drinking crowd - which is also often the "vomiting in your car" crowd.

3. You need additional insurance to be fully protected. If you get in an accident, you will be covered by the insurance of Uber of Lyft, however they carry $1,000 and $2,500 deductibles respectively. If you don't disclose to your insurance company that you are a commercial driver (because that is what you become), they could drop you or fail to pay any claim resulting from an accident while driving professionally.

Yes, this is first hand experience. Back in 2016, Lyft was new to Phoenix and was paying $25-$40 per hour guaranteed. Being a night owl and perpetual side hustler, I drove those late nights and made about $300 per weekend for about 10 hours worth of work (this included tips). I actually enjoyed the interaction with most of the people. It was often an interesting social experiment - and sometimes a sad glimpse into empty and hurting souls.

Sadly, there is also a rise in crime against drivers. Ironically, a local real estate agent who was driving for Lyft part time ended up in a crossfire situation and got shot (wrong place and wrong time) and is still in rehab over a year later. Just last week a pregnant Lyft driver was murdered here in Phoenix.

I was a speaker at a Side Gig Summit last year and spoke about rideshare driving. Here is a Rideshare Drivers Guide I put together for that audience.

My two cents is that Lyft is a better company than Uber and they have a better company culture. While I don't drive anymore, I am a customer and always choose Lyft over Uber.

I have heard of lots of agents doing this, and while I understanding needing to keep the cashflow going, many of them see it as a marketing opportunity which I don't. I cannot imagine someone seeing their Uber or Lyft driver as a solid real estate professional... otherwise they would not be driving. When I drove, I never talked about what I did professionally, nor did it come up much.

No, but I use them as needed. All the drivers say they like it for good or extra cash. Lyft seems to be preferred by both drivers and riders.
