I don't listen to advice... I am at a stage of life where I'm the one who gives it and then only if asked. But way back when I was a child, my mother said I should first ensure my education... after that, I could do anything I want and live my live anyway that I want... but to never forget that my education would be the bedrock for everything else would happen in my life. She also suggested (quite radically for the 1950's) that my livlihood should never depend on a man.

Be the source of the source, don't be the source.

There's no single best advice - there has been a lot of good advice!

If you don't have anything nice to say about someone, don't say anything.

Pay yourself first.

If at first you don't succeed, try, try again.

(and so on).

From my refugee dad who had every material thing taken from him.

An elderly guy my mom used to take us to visit told me something quite wise. He said that if you know a little bit about a lot of things people might assume you know everything about everything.

This might be the key to presumed expertice. It gives us a slight leg up over those who may be even more qualified than we actually are. As a newby agent, we have to earn clients before we're more qualifed than a little bit of coursework and our fresh certificate. So... some perceived wisdom goes a long way.

Golden rule.

Go to college.

"People become rich by working for their money, but become wealthy by making their money work for them."

Don't answer the question, "How's the real estate market?" with a bunch of stats and stuff that will make folks eyes glaze over.  Rather ask them, "That's an interesting question.  Why do you ask?"  Their reason for asking is far more important than blindly answering their question.

Do the right thing, always.

Don’t volunteer for anything!

as a new agent, don't spend that commission check until you deposit it!!! 

Trust your gut.... of course it took years of second guessing myself to realize the truth in those three words!

I can’t say any of them on this medium.

Think big or go home.  My uncle now gone.

Treat other agents the way you want to be treated

The Rotary 4 way test makes it best advice in quarters. 

Think it through. The only thing your competition can't duplicate is you!

Treat every body the way you want to be treated.

Many years ago, I had just started a job in a new industry, company, and location.  The COO counseled me that I did not need to know everything now.  He shared "how do you know what you don't know". Always ask " what else should I be asking or questioning?". "What else is important for me to know."  I have had more people comment that it is a great question.  My youngest son has also started using it. At the orthopedic doctor appointment recently, he asked it. Doc responded what a great question. 

As Debe Maxwell, CRS states ... the golden rule. 

'Be true to yourself' - If we are in tune with our our own values, they always pave the way -

Be confident.

Life is what happens in-between your plans

In 2008 when the shit was really hitting the fan in the mortgage industry, my rep from Chase, who has since passed away, told me "if you can work, learn, and make it through what we're going through right now, you'll be able to weather any storm the future can throw at you, and you'll never look back"

A couple tough years followed, and he was SO very right about that little snippet of advice that I'll carry with me (and pass along) my entire life.

My dad had many colorful words of advice which I cannot share here.

Be happy.

I went something like this.... "No, don't do it".

Another one was.... "OMG, buy this house now"

and.... "Awesome offer, take it!"

So many to chose.

Learn how to say :"No".

Be yourself, and don't mimick others, the client will see through you.

Get a coach early in the business.

It depends on if you are asking about in real estate or in life. 

I will answer about the best real estate advice. 

When I started in real estate in California, Jimmy Carter was on his last year in office, It was a super tough time, the recession was horrible, the gas lines were so long - I remember waiting in those gas lines!  Interest rates were so high, over 18% in most cases, most people could not quality for a loan at that rate. 

When I got my license, there was a rule in the brokerages back then, that you had to have a mentor ( who got a part of your commissions- so there was incentive for them to be good mentors) who would teach you and go with you on your first transactions, etc. 

My mentor was Muriel. She drove a fancy cadalac , and was the top producer, she was way older than me. She taught me so much in her wisdom, 

the one thing she said that has always stuck with me, and never steered me wrong was: 

"The power is in the listing".
