I need nothing, so I've spent nothing.  Spending for the sake of spending or a tax deduction is what leads people to financial ruin.  Like a couple years ago with my taxes, I could have contributed $5,000 to my IRA which would have reduced my tax liability $3,200.  I said no, kept the $5,000 and the extra tax liability and came out $1,800 ahead!
