Success is real estate is different for each party. At the end of the day, have I built rapport with those around me, do others speak highly of me, and have I done the things I said I'd do? If my answers are "yes" thast's success.

By the quality of the relationships I develop with my clients; the money is just a score card of how well I'm doing developing those relationships. But the score card also measures success at the end of the day.

Miss Marte, I think success in or out of real estate = joy. Sinking your teeth into a challenge like it was a freaking 12 oz ribeye, laughing in the face of disaster and making impossible deals work even when nobody else GsAF, without breaking a nail.
If you've been in real estate longer than 10 years and saving deals still makes you hot, you're a success. LOLLLL
Now I want that steak!

Interesting question. Interesting answers. No elevator speech. The answer can vary over time. By situation. From client to client. Differing factors make this too lengthy to answer in this forum.

It's personal to me. I live very differently than most people and certainly most real estate agents I know ... including many of my favorite AR peeps. My definition would be meaningless to anyone other than me.

I can only define my success.
I know many successful "part time" agents that are very happy doing what they do, and they're very good at it.
I know many "mega" agents that are constantly pulling their hair out. Some aren't, but a lot are. It makes them happy.
If they're successful in their mind and where they are in the business, I think that would be the definition of success for them.
Success as a real estate agent (or in life) is finding you and being comfortable where you are. If you're not comfortable, success is putting in work to make it different.
That's the coolest thing about real estate. There is no ONE right way to do it, and your success is just that... yours.

Lives changed.
Real estate is the vessel in which we travel to do that which is most fulfilling to our lives. Real estate transactions is not a measure of success.
Lives transformed is. It is possible transformation and transaction exit in the moment. However only one results in hearing "Well done....."
The young couple who hug me when they move into their farm house and invite me to every family gathering...spells success.
The fragile woman who emotionally breaks down and venomously attacks me...and three weeks later understands were it not for me she would certainly be homeless. I saved her in spite of herself and she realizes her pleadings were heard. That spells success.
Success is ones career is where one vocation and avocation intersect. Without examining ones life the lines have no hope of convergence.
So new real estate agent I ask, 'Why do you exist?" Now we are getting somewhere.
Many have a different standard. That is OK.

It's multiple and varied, in no particular order.
It's making enough $$ that my CPA isn't looking at me and saying "if you don't show some profit the IRS is going to think you're treating this as a hobby!" (some lean years when we first started and the economy went south, we poured money in with the expectation of future returns).
It's getting good enough at reading the signs that I'm NOT working with a client that I come to dread talking to, seeing or getting an email from.
It's having happy clients that make it clear YOU are their agent for life (without having to ask).
It's a client that goes out of their way to write you a fantastic review.
It's continuing to learn and improve.
It's respect.
It's getting found on those Net searches for the work I'm doing.
And if I go any further I should just go write a blog post :)

When you the agent or broker personally can not wait to get to work each day. When real estate buyers and sellers let you know you go above and beyond and they spread the word online and through out the grapevine. When your business grows, the market share gets larger. When you reinvent your job to stay ahead of just current methods to do your job better than the average bear wearing the "R". When without words it is obvious you are in the right profession and everyone you know, even folks you don't would say the same. That is success in real estate.

6,056,515
It could be finding that first time buyer a home (in a very low price range), or handing them the keys at closing. Or, having a great year....lots of things make me feel successful.

Sucess in any arena is accomplishing or exceeding the goals you have set for yourself. Sorry if that sounds vague, but everyone's goals are different, so their measure of success should be different as well.
