 Set defaults to Windows Media Player and Irfanview

 Open Task Manager:  disable or block Microsoft Office, Microsoft Store, Microsoft Photos.  You can't block Cortana, sorry.   

 Using Task Manager and/or Control Panel, look for any bloatware or crapware.  Uninstall it.

  Be sure to run CCleaner to clear the browser.

  Then run Super-AntiSpyware and/or Kaspersky and/or Malwarebytes to remove any malware.

I default to the advice of Fred Griffin. He is a go to techie when it comes to advice! 

You should load in whatever browser(s) work for you. As for other things, it's very personal what you like to use. Fred Griffin has kindly provided a great list.

I'd start with what you need, the basics.  And add from there.  I am not a fan of loading up my PC with a bunch of crap I don't need or use. 

Firefox and Brave browsers.  Foxit PDF editor/viewer.  Open Office.

beyond my paygrade.... I just had a new hard drive put in my old dell and windows 10.... good as new for $170 and didn't lose any files...

I'm a mac user and I do not use Firefox as well. 

The Firefox browser is one of the best browsers,  with a small footprint, I would not delete it. It constantly self-updates itself. I don't know about your MLS, but Mozilla (Firefox) is a development company for many MLS systems (like Flexmls), so I would keep it on because it would work best in that environment.

I use all 3 main browers depending on what I do (MS Explorer, Firefox, Google).

Dropbox, if you don't already use it...wonderful for accessing pictures, documents, etc. when you're on the run. Also put the app on your phone, it has saved me numerous times!

Carbonite or iDrive for backing up your files.

Firefox will stay, IE and Chrome all will be great browsers.

You have some good suggestions. I use Chrome and gmail.

Your database may be the most important element.

Eileen Burns I'm learning that less is more. I'm starting to use more and more "on line" programs.

Eileen, my best advice to you would be to return and buy a Macbook Air. The one I'm using now has 6 years of use. No virus, no disappointments.

I use DuckDuckGo for my browser to reduce spammers.

Create a restore point.

Load TOR. Then,

Snapchat of course.

Then use TOR do download some FREE pictures from any website.

All of the essentials you need will become apparent when you attempt to recover from the previous actions. See FRED's list.

Mozillla Firefox obsolete?  You may want to find another source for your IT information.
