A REIT is usually publically traded and has staff legal. They use attorneys rather than Realtors for contracts. Secondary mortgage markets - a Realtor would almost never work with or have knowledge of- most loans in the US are sold to our government (Fannie Freddie USDA FHA...) some are sold to hedge funds, some are sold to investors and other sources. Did your teacher really ask this question?

I am not. Of the REIT that I am most familiar they do not use a Realtor. If a property owner is interested in becoming part of the REIT it is worked out with an attorney and the the REIT's legal team.
