Well since he is a CPA you better have a good one lined up to replace him and indeed if he does not see it  and looks at it as a business decision the answer is easy: You looked at it as a business decision and wish him the best and hope he loses all the referrals you gave him and you as well, Endre

I have "fired' long term vendors and often what brings it about is a major incident or series of incidents that have been discussed so it's not a surprise when I retain a new vendor. With other vendors, I just quietly stop using them and wait for them to contact me and find out why.

Yes, I had to fire my TC of 10 years, my escrow & title of 12 years and  2 roofers and a painter unfortunately in my 18+ year career.

I fired my CPA too.

All at some point pulled a big issue "no-no" and instead of owning their mistakes and apologizing, they got defensive and rude - unprofessional and in 4 of these cases I was shocked given a decade or more of service.

I simply didn't hire them the next time and moved on. None ever followed up to find out why they were no longer getting work, so I assume it was mutually understood.

I think i would find a new cpa too and let him know why. I had to let a contractor g. They were my go to guys. I would call and they were there. Then they started to charge near double without notice. Then did not show up. They took advantage and were quickly replaced.

Hmmm, if I read this correctly, another brokerage asked him to co-market before you did (if you ever intended to). Many lenders co-market with multiple agents.

He HAS delivered EXCEPTIONAL service(s) to you and your family and business.

I need to ask, "Exactly what did you expect?"

Then one must ask, "Is the CPAs arrangement EXCLUSIVE?" IF not go and do likewise.

When I encounter the 'need to fire' I try to base it on performance. Sometimes I just don't like them anymore. When folks are not longer enjoyable to work with or have committed BETRAYAL then I have no problem bring in the back up.

Well it appears as if it is  conflict of interests and he knew you were heading in the commercial arena, no getting around that. And yes I have let  a long term vendor go.  I was shocked to hear what he said to one of our cients after all these years - and that kind of behavior doesn't fly with me. Never ever.

I don't see any problem or conflict of interest. Title companies, attorneys, CPA's, etc all provide their services to others. I'm sure he will keep your information confidential. Since he has a long history of providing you with "amazing" service, it might be worth sticking with him. As someone once said " I don't worry about the competition, let the competition worry about me."

Vendors can change for the better and for the worse. I rarely feel the need to make it final with a formal "you're fired!" but if there are persistent issues I will stop using them let them know why I decided to hire someone else at this time. In most cases I like to leave the door open for future business if they can earn it back.

Regarding your cpa, I don't understand the conflict. I would expect a CPA would advertise and partner with multiple real estate companies, like many lenders do. ...and title companies.
