I think college grduates are learning the importance of what they study. There are great high paying jobs yet so many who study liberal arts can not find jobs. Many who are skipping college and learn a trade, are also rewarded with high paying jobs.

Momma always said, "If you can't say nothin' nice, then..." Yup! Sort of started when wait staff would refer to Sandy and me as 'Guys' Disrespectful!

No, not sure what the purpose of the Q is. We have minimum wage here now at 13.50 or something so the workers are just as stupid as they were before.

Craftsmanship has been on the decline for a generation now. A friend of mine is a really good commercial plumber; he says he could be air-dropped anywhere USA and be gainfully employed in 10 minutes with backup offers.

I'm seeing the trend towards automation of the workforce, at least for entry level service jobs and agriculture work.

I haven't noticed but I haven't been paying attention, either. I will now...lol! Carol mentions "work ethic!" All my life, I've behaved in a manner that would make my mama proud...she instill in me a very high work ethic. I do agree that nowadays "work ethic" is on the verge of being lost especially with our young people. One thing that I don't agree with is the minimum wage.....

One of the big problems is young people are not being taught work ethic. They are not reliable (or skilled) and yet want to demand $15 per hour for what?

Here the thing I seem to notice most often is many individuals simply are not paid nearly enough to live in this expensive location. Yes we have many high paying jobs and the average household income is high compared with the rest of the country however one thing worth noting is that the average occupancy of homes in the area have increased so the household income numbers are a bit deceptive.

These words or words so very similar have been used to describe the new work force by EVERY generation.
Hiring body over quality. I don't know what that means. In the end, it is always bodies that get things done, even if the body is stroking keys.
In the OLD days. employers TRAINED the ones they hired. Today they expect someone else to train them. It will never work that way.
And yes, I did notice this. I was at a restaurant with POKE in the title. On the menu I was expected to declare my POKE!
So, where in the story of this restaurant franchise did things go wrong? Or am I too unskilled to place an order. Or perhaps their exists a expectation disconnect.
OK, I'll be first. RAISE THE BAR on the worker pool.....you know, by allowing skilled and educated workers to stay and opening the immigration doors to the same.
Here on Active Rain we bristle at the sight of a panhandler. I wonder what 'bring me your poor and huddled masses' mean to these same people.
Let me mention .... that guy with the dread lock and the nose pierce was able to complete a 5 color separation and create a differential map in less that 30 minutes. Awesome!
He will NEVER calculate a regression of 6 variables.
In one of the above disciplines 95% of Active Rain members and REALTORS will find themselves at the bottom of basic skills hierarchy. The role of a leader is to find the candidates skill and put it in the spotlight. Oh,.... it THAT the basic skill lacking to which you refer?
It a good thing no one had to discover Jobs, Gates, Zuckerburg, Musk and the many who emerged of their own strength and skill. I have hope we have not seen the end of innovation and the emergence of an economy not yet mature.

I won't complain that too many people have jobs since it is too fresh when America was loosing jobs at an ungodly pace.
3,345,091
That has been the case, from my experience, for many years ... having nothing to do with illegal workers.
2,781,173
Not the bottom per se but those who don't want to work or are hiding are now compelled to come out and do something about their lifes. Employers may have to choose from that pool

With the demand for skilled labor, we continue to encounter difficulty when looking for qualified workers to prep our listings for sale. The people that we regularly use are very busy…booked up for weeks.
