The RIGHT CHARLOTTE REALTOR!

I don't know if it carries the same weight and for that reason, I wouldn't knock if there was a 'No Soliciting' sign.

If there was a "Posted Keep Out" or a "No Trespassing" sign, I wouldn't even THINK of stepping foot on the property, muchless knocking!

Over 5 years I have happy life - sold my house. Our city has less than 280 houses, the rest - condos. Was really unpleasant when all those people knocked at my door. Signs did not help.

Imagine door knocking in luxury Condominium.  No.  No possible.  So, why they should knock at your door if you live in the house?!

I have never checked about our city policy. May or may not. Will do it today.

I have two signs when you walk up to my porch. One, required by the department to identify me as a real estate office/broker is on my front door. The other, on my security door, is a no soliciting sign. I think between the two of those any real estate agent would turn around and walk away. I can't say I've ever had one come up to my door. It's really just not how we do things here. Between dogs and guns . . . nono, they prefer to lather us up with a bunch of unnecessary emails.

I don't door knock so this is not a problem I've had to solve. I don't think no soliciting is as strong as no trespassing... no trespassing has me wondering if a big dog or a gun are about to greet me.

Home is where the hearth is.

it's not really a question of whether it's legal, or not.  If they have a "no soliciting" sign up... they've clearly made a decision they do not want uninvited sales people knocking at their door.

how do you possibly think that they'll be receptive..?  Much more likely they'll be pissed-off.  Move on.

Me: Hi, how are you?

Them: Didn’t you see the sign.

Me: I am not soliciting. I am passing out information about the real estate market in your neighborhood.

Then I make a note for future reference about whether I should knock or skip that door.

Fred, I don't know exactly what the laws are in our state for door knocking, but I can't imagine that the police would arrive in time to arrest someone for doing it given the low priority of it compared to other crimes.

I don't door knock either but have wondered if the signs deter others. I have thought about posting one on my front porch...

Well, since I'm not a solicitor I guess it's ok!  LOL.  If you're dropping off door hangers or taking a neighborhood real estate survey you can go because you're not directly soliciting business.

No, it is not legal.

Fred, we have a client who has for many years worked in a particular neighborhood.  Evenyone living there looks forward to seeing him and talking real estate.  He visits the neighborhood 3 times a week, every week.  This a high end neighborhood and gates open for him. He gets most of the listings.  Those he does not sign up are overpriced, and eventually, they give him a call and give him the lisitng.  A

Legalities aside, a "No Soliciting" sign means they don't want people coming to their door selling things or services.  That's no way to start a relationship of trust and respect.  I would find another way to prospect them.

 *** Why I posted this question ***

Yesterday, someone commented about Door Knocking.  They said they would even knock on a door that has a No Soliciting sign!

In Florida, you can be arrested and put in the back of a police car for ignoring a No Soliciting sign.

There  is also the "rude and disresectful" angle that several have answered here.

Finally, regarding my state of Florida, we are a Castle Doctrine state, and we have the Stand Your Ground Law.  If you are on someone's porch, knocking on a door that has a No Soliciting sign, and someone perceives that you are a threat to them... it could turn out very badly.
