Give her money or a credit card. She will know more about what she needs or wants after she gets there.

A "Care package" in a basket. Then send the care packages on a consistent basis. Our daughter loved receiving these during her Freshman year. 

I gave my son a collection of all the books I wish I'd read 20 years sooner. I also gave him some cash. Guess which one got the bigger reaction?

Pepper spray or have her attend a concealed carry class and have Mr. Glock keep her company

Do yourself a favor and get her a condo while she's there. You won't regret it.

I like Fred Griffin 's thought.... a cell phone and, as you said, on your plan to not ever run out of minutes.... 

        A cell phone with your number on speed dial.   There are times when she is going to need "Daddy".  

A microwave

Surprise her with a gift basket with a heartfelt card in the bottom...

Fill it with her favorite things and don't let her see it/open it until you leave. 

Of course, once a month, send her a care package too!

An alarm clock or more than one alarm clocks especially if you have been her alarm clock in high school :)

Your never-ending love and support.  Send her a text message letting her know that you are only a call or a text away if /when she needs you for anything.

Came back to answer on this one - set up emergency money. Walmart has where you can pick up cash at every store location in case something happens. Checks won't help sometimes in an emergency. Very cheap peace of mind. Store to store it's called.

A couple nice sets of sheets, comforter, towels, etc.  And, a monthly care package as recommended by JoAnn and Debe.

A personal note written by you.  She may have moments of feeling lonely (even if she's outgoing and friendly, she is human and we all feel out of sorts sometimes) and a letter of love and encouragement from a caring dad can mean the world during those moments!

Well most dorm rooms have very little space to work with so keep that in mind.

1. A mini fridge is pretty much a must have
2. mini coffee maker or even a K Cup type if so inclined but I prefer drip coffee
3. small convection/microwave oven
4. Closet organizer, space saving hangers etc
5. small circular fan — If her Dorm Room gets as hot as many its a must have

My daughter will be heading to college as well. I am happy to have been able to take her shopping for dorm items. The one tip i got was get a memory foam mattress pad as the beds are horrible. She will thank you every night and morning for a good sleep.  Hers was a XL twin

Air popcorn popper, extra twin long sheets, wait until you see her bed but containers that fit exactly under with lids, snacks to share, or a string of sparkle lights.

On another note- one of those loud panic alarms that goes on a key chain

Give her a few extra bucks for things that come up the first few weeks! They always do!

Our children loved care packages periodically sent throughout the year. Peanut butter and crackers were a great hit.

Gift card to Bed, Bath&Beyond or Target - invaluable; will take care of all her dorm needs. Later, send her a plane ticket home for a nice visit (or gas money if she's driving).

I'd get her a gorgeous leather tote bag (but then I do collect bags). But it's been so long ago for us, I don't know what goes on in dorms these days. Three of our grandkids are already graduated from college and they were boys so they are not interested in the same things as girls.

Now is the time to take a look at those Dinner Table Journals you've been keeping since she was in 4th grade. What were the transformation moments she shared.....even is at a young age they were not recognized as such. 

So get plaques or T's with those reminders.
