It's a wet coated seed mixture (coated with a material that holds moisture long enough for the seed to germinate even if it's not watered.  It's long been used by the department of transporation for the shoulders of new roads and ones that were widened and what not because there is no way to water it.  Had it done on our new home 16 years ago because right after we finished building we went on a two week vacation.  Came home to grass.

A slurry that is sprayed onto the soil containing a mix of seeds, water, fertilizer and stabilizers.  Designed to provide quick growth for new lawns and other groundcovers.

Haven't seen it here yet.   Most new construction is on postage-stamp sized lots; so there isn't much yard.   They are still throwing down sod.

I thought that it was spreading seeds with a machine, am I wrong.

They have used this concept in our town to "seed" planting strips near newly constructed roads. I wish they maintained the plantings, however, once they grow.  Quickly turn into weeds!

i've rarely seen in L.A. hood. I've seen  our city tried to use it on busy streets areas, but years ago, probably too hot in here. 

It is not used in my area. Is it sustainable? 

San Mateo County, CA-where I grew up- has been hydro seeding for over 30 years, they do it along many of our freeway medians and certain pull outs.

Used by highway construction for erosion control. Cost about $8000 an acre.

I have heard painters get paid less to spay paint someone's back yard with green paint.

Bob has it right. We use it for a sure way to cover and get some grass growing fast. 

We use a fair amount here, especially along the road ways. Bob Crane gave you the correct answer.

They use it all the time out here for the slopes along the freeways and ESPECIALLY in burn areas after a fire.  Usually a mixture of flowers.  Grows quicklly and helps prevent mudslides during the rains.  Actually tried to get it for the slope outside of my house once but the area was too small and the cost too high.

Pretty cool and I am sure pretty efficient and “easy.

did my last two yards with this and it works great in hot dry climates.  I used a GADOT contractor to do it.

A chemical mix of bad stuff from Monsanto used to make dirt grow fast.

Yes that is the answer essentially you are spraying the seed in a liquid semi paste it can be used for a wide variety of seeds not just for a lawn

A very good way of seeding a lawn

I sought to Hydroseed a yard that had no existing grass. Unsuccessful.

Government agencies here in Pinellas County FL rely on sod for soil coverage, preferably Bahia grass.....the very weed that spells death to a lawn with St Augustine the most common sod in my area.
