However, during the recession, I would get a lot of web buyers and once I took my college-aged son with me to meet an 'unknown' buyer! It was after office hours and I was not going to meet him in a vacant home alone.

My son is 6'4" and is a fairly intimidating guy. As it happened, the man I was meeting was as kind as could be and eventually wound up buying a home from me. We laughed at the 'security guard' that I brought with me on our first visit!

My first broker said someday she would write a book called 'Candice Doesn't Do Children'.
I kept my knees pressed together for a very long time to make sure, LOL. But I digress.

Truly, it seems unprofessional. However, everything is interdependent, and perhaps it may be okay in some situations.
Some would say having Lunapie with me is inappropriate. It might be absolutely unthinkable with some clients, or might be requested by others. At times it would be for my protection.

Overall, in general, I think it's a disservice to your client to have any kind of distraction that takes your attention away from their needs.

I don't have children so this is not a question I have asked myself. I'm keepingsilent on how other agents project their professionalism or specific business practice unless it has a direct impact on me.  I choose the right to change my mind....

Personally I would not (if I had small children).  My kids are adults and both have been Realtors ... when I was training them we went together for only a few times and they just introduced me as "their Realtor Mom" and the buyers liked that I was there and giving my 2 cents worth.  But although I would not I totally can see that there are times when a young Mother/Father who is a Realtor may be in a position where they have to bring the kids ... but I would let the client know before showing up.  Kids can be distracting.  Now I have brought my fur-babies but they stayed in the car.   IMHO

My first broker would take her young children when no alternative was available. She would even take the customers to her home and feed them lunch along with the children. She was highly successful.

Personally, I would not do it!

If I did have kids I would not bring them along unless there was no other option.  Then they would be told they had to act like a proper adult and be neither seen nor heard or there would be serious consequences.

I would love to have my kids ride along, in fact they could drive. That would give me time to make calls on the way and do some work. Most of my clients meet me at the house. I don't think my kids would want to go in the house since they are 35, 40, 43 and 45.

Yes, I have before. I used to bring my infant all the time when she was in a carseat and asleep most of the time. We only brought toddlers when absolutely necessary and first we would explain to our client that we could either show with the kid at the time they requested or it would have to be another time when we could be without kids. Our clients always agreed that bringing the kid(s) was okay. Sometimes, being parents who are both agents with young children we do what we have to do. My children are well behaved, but I realize it's still not the most professional practice. Now ask me if I want my clients to bring THEIR children. Lol. Just kidding. Sort of. -Kasey

Not as a rule, but if there was a situation where a client absolutely insisted they see a home NOW, and they insisted I bring my child when I explained the situation, then I'd do it. Never say never. Of course, my "children" are 24 and up so this wouldn't happen but if they were young and I had to work, and I didn't have another way to do what I had to do, I'd do it.
