Whenever I think of it. To be honest, I usually don't say it until someone says it to me.
If someone said it to me in, say, June, I'd ask them what New Year they are talking about. Otherwise, I'd just respond in kind.

I've been doing it all week - I may not see them again until next year so, I make sure they know that I wish them well in the new year!
BTW, Happy New Year!!

No rule for that but I suppose it starts right after Christmas.

I wish people a happy new year as appropriate, including in my messages in Christmas cards. Just wished all my Active Rain friends a happy new year's eve... I know it's not too early for that

Most of the "Happy New Year' wishes I offer actually are 364 days early.

Unlike the retailers that seem to have forgotten traditional timing expectations, New Year's Day and today is enough for me. HNY Praful Thakkar !

Today. But I found myself saying "Merry New Year" mixing up Christmas with New Years.

Starting after Christmas, unless they are Jewish, then in September or so (Rosh Hashanah).

I generally tend to say it when it is the next holiday (so after Christmas). If I know that I won't see or talk to the person again until after the holiday occurs, I wish them both a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Currently, I am only saying Happy New Year. Not Happy New Year and Happy Valentine's Day. ;-)

Praful Thakkar I think, three days before new year is appropriate. Happy New Year.

A few days before if I won't see them until after the day (same with any holiday really).
5,396,277
I really don't pay that much attention to it. I write it in my holiday cards and they go out a week or so before Christmas. In person it depends on if I will likely see or talk to them again or not. Could be a week or more in advance.

As others have said, whenever it seems appropriate.
Happy New Year, ActiveRain friends.

I do not have a date and time set in stone. Generally it is any time after Christmas.

Praful,
It depends...we wish it at the beginning of the year, and many times thereafter, there are many cultures and religions that celebrated on the 14th of January, and in Spring. A

Not only your point but how about after the New Year? Are we still wishing it
