I have several email addresses - one is specifically for personal, one specifically for registrations to sites that I know are going to send me junk mail in the future and the others are real estate related.

I had a personal brand but changed it little by little to dreynoldsrealestate@gmail.com and it works for me. So now all others forward to that one. It's easy to get all emails in one place. I don't plan to switch back.

No, I don't. Mine is my first name @ my first and last name. People remember that and as I always tell people, if you can spell my name, you can send me an email. It's the same reason I have a url of my name... clients might forget my email, but if they put my name@.com in the computer they find me and email me from there.

Because I'm a dork with an AOL address!
There is 99% 'no good reason' to use a generic email address really. Should be using domain . . .
HOWEVER . . . there are times a gmail address is a fallback . . . I deal with some corporate and governmental entities that 'do not like' my domain addie and it ends up being poofed by their filters.

I have a generic email address for my personal stuff, and a separate non-generic business email address.
So I guess that means I can't answer this!

Why not the personal brand email anymore? I average 200-300 junk and spam emails per day. I would rather spread them out among my several Gmail, Yahoo, and Outlook accounts.
The email addy on my B-card is Gmail.

Because gmail is more secure ( encrypted) than running email through your host. There are many negatives/risks to running email through your host. (a) Too many DDoS attacks these days (b) You might have to change hosts quickly at some point (c) Your site can be hacked through email records on your host (d) hosts can terminate your account at any time ( they limit inode connections) (e)many hosts limit system resources (f) Old emails can build up and can cause overages. etc, etc. You can brand your gmail on both the free accounts and gsuites if all you're concerned about is branding.

I use gmail to deliver & receive large files and sign up for things and control responses to call to action ads...easily track results by which email they used.
I use my branded one daily for communication without attachments and most fixed advertising: website, biz card, etc.

So when I am testing via the 30 day trial. I use a disposable address.
In marketing I prefer a generic address or one directly linked by name to the campaign.
The email addresses with my name are reserved for more enduring purposes.
