It's a great way to reach FSBO's.  They are surfing the web for tips and advice.  When they cave in and decide to list, you might be front and center.

   The agent who squawked is a dingbat.  Ignore, delete, block.

I always thought the best way to get a FSBO listing is to not seek anything from them, rather offer practical advice & even the forms that are needed. A lot of the time they realize they don't want to do the Realtor's job & you get the listing. Maybe this agent doesn't know that. Still no excuse to ever be nasty.

I read your Blog Scott Godzyk - it's very informative and shows the reality of what you would go through on your own, since you are not part of a team with your realtor.  Even for those that bought/sold a home years ago, things have changed, and not always just the paperwork.  It shows that this is a real job with real responsibilities and that you know how transactions progress - I think it might help others, and is a huge boost for yourself.  Anyone being nasty, which is never called for, is just rude.  No reason or excuse to be 'that person' - and I would not even dignify their comments with a reply or response.

It is an excellent blog post. It very deftly clarifies to the FSBO seller that selling on your own is a risky endeavor that requires much time and professional knowledge. Your blog post was so good, I bookmarked it.

I don't see why not... most FSBO's don't succeed so you never know which one ends up calling you to list because they saw your post. When I do posts about FSBO's I take more of an approach about they not to be one.

 Well at least it made me want to read your blog! After I did, I see no problem with it. It shows Just what the seller has to go though and all the troubles that come with it. I would think those are are trying to sell on their own or are thinking about it would find this helpful. Doesn't mean they won't change their mind, or not be successful, and consider calling you to list.

Nothing wrong with helping the 17% that will be successful selling their home anyway. The real message is the time necessary to be successful the other 83% don't have or won't commit to. Time is money!

Prior tp beign an agent, I tried to sell a house by owner (since I had a few times prior) This time, it was a tougher time to sell and the home didn't sell easily.  Several agents were rude and stoppped by to tell me they wouldn't show the property.  Another came by, showed the property to a client, etc.   When the home didn't sell, who do you think I picked to list the property?

I think your blog will not only enlighten the home sellers, but also gain some respect for the industry.  

The nasty agent obviously didn't read your blog all the way through.

Wow. All I can say is that some people like to change their own oil and cut their grass, just like some like to sell on there own house. They may change their mind down the road. As for the agent that say they will not show your house, I would thank them and tell them I will take note, if I change my mind and decide to list, I will make sure not to bother you with a call.

Write want you want, what you beliece in, and what you think helps the public. There will always be naysayers.

Scott Godzyk you can blog whatever topic you want.  I don't think there's a limit on what to blog.

You can write blogs just about anything you would like to talk about.

I don't think it's a bad thing to do.  Like Fred Griffin said, why not market to them.  If they decide to list they will already know your name (but you'll probably have to hit them up with mailers too and catch them on the right day).

Yes. Nothing wrong with helping fsbo's. The agent that wrote the nasty letter is a good example of why many sellers can't stand agents and prefer fsbo method.

Your blog basically says, "Hey, there is a LOT involved in this process, do you know that? Do you know what to do? Wouldn't it be better to have a professional take this off your hands?"

Why not? There is tons of information out there already plus it shows a helpful attitude as well as being knowledgeable.  To avoid FSBOs is shortsighted!

So sorry you received a nasty comment. I think it makes sense to help FSBO sellers as many of them end up having to list with an agent and they woul dmuch more inclined to list with someone that has helped them.

I've had FSBO sellers tell me they want to go it alone and come back to me to sell it after they did not suceed. What I do NOT do is give advice while they are trying to do it themselves and, yes, that has happened. There is a liability issue. As to writing a BLOG to FSBOs on what they should consider, well, that's another story. I presume this is information you would give anyone.

I think it's a great idea to help FSBO's.  That way, if you've been helpful, and they find that they're unable to sell, they might consider you as their listing agent.

I am sure you can find quality FSBO advice on other mainstream real estate sites as well. Education is a part of being a professional, and your post will let FSBO's know that it's really not something to be left to an amatuer. Hopefully, they will have questions for you and pick up the phone.

yes, I would do that....and I have, in the past, assisted FSBO's with guidance for marketing their own home....I ended up with the listing!!! happened twice....

I would never send a nasty note to someone encouraging FSBOs to give it a go.

If I were to write a blogs focused on FSBOs, it would not contain the magic sauce. As your blogs title suggests, a FSBO may need to rely on 'magic' to get the job done.

HOWEVER, I do not shy away from advising there are ways to sell profitably WITHOUT the MLS.

90% of FSBO's hire a Realtor, so hell yes and tell Mr./Mrs. Nasty to stick it where God split them.

One of the best kept secrets is that an agents best way to get FSBO listings is to HELP THEM without trying to list them.  Most will list eventually, it's a statistical fact.  Showing your expertise is a great way to make sure when they list, they list with you.
