I agree with Nina; a new agent shouldn't even be venturing into this right now. There are too many traditional ways for them to begin.

No clue... auctions are not in my wheelhouse. But I know enough about autions to know it's not an arena in which I'd recommend a brand new agent dabbles.

I had to run a short sale through Auction.com once- the highest bidder didn't follow through. We put it back up for auction a 2nd time & there were "crickets". Third time someone bit. Seemed like the long way to an end considering I had offers from Agents. I think their fees (% based) turn off some buyers. Have no idea how a new agent could use it to their advantage (bettter than MLS).

Going along with what others have said, citing Article 11 of the Code of Ethics:
REALTORS® shall not undertake to provide specialized professional services concerning a type of property or service that is outside their field of competence unless they engage the assistance of one who is competent on such types of property or service, or unless the facts are fully disclosed to the client.

Auctions is its own specialty. Usually foreclosures or hard-to-sell properties. Bidders are either investors shooting for 50 cents on the dollar, or newbie/numpties who think that they are going to get a deal.
I wouldn't send a new agent there.

Well a short course on auctions would be good. They are not hard just different. #1 should be sure that you put your commission in the right spot.
Here's what I would do - use their listings, all of them! If they are a foreclosure (which they should be) you are allowed to advertise them even if they are not your companies listings. So do that wherever you can trying to get buyers for this 'deal'.
2nd - sellers in the area HATE these houses so also contact them. Tell them you are trying to get 'this stinky fish' out of the neighborhood. Do they know of a buyer? Do you plan on moving soon?

new agents should start with basics.... securing business from visitors to open house events would be first and foremost...they'll get buyers and buyers have homes to sell...

Get familiar with the workings of auction.com. Attend some auctions. Auctions aren't the best way for most sellers to get rid of property. Many auctions I went to were a waste of time for buyers and sellers. For builders dumping lot inventory, they can be good. When sellers set reserve too high, it can be a waste of time for everyone. Buyers at auctions are looking for deals. In some situations though, auction is the best way to sell. Look at referring to auction companies. One of the better auction companies in this area is http://www.nichollsauction.com/. I wouldn't focus just on auction.com.

May be a way to find a few buyer clients from those who do not succeed in the auction.
But the sellers here likely already have representation from a broker.

I would pass, unless they have a good mentor or partner who knows how to work with these kind of websites.
But, if you absolutely must, read at least all rules and small print there.

I use it regularly. It has zero value to traditional agents. They are not going to get listings or buyers from it and there is no place for them to waste their money buying leads.

That is not a path I would suggest for a new agent. There are plenty of other ways for new agents to build their business more fruitfully.

If they are a new agent they should avoid using any online Auction sites. An agent would starve on those commissions.
