To close the connection and be secure, LOG OUT.
X doesn't always immediately disconnect you in cyber-space, not inter face mind you. This was shared with me by my IT guy years ago.

It depends. Most banks and even our MLS logs us out after a certain while of inactivity. It probably is a good thing!

Whether you log out or X out, the cookies and any tracking software from the site you were visiting will probably remain on your computer.
Security-conscience people may want to run a program like CCleaner after they close out from their email, financial sites, or anything else that contains sensitive information. With a program like CCleaner, it takes only a few clicks and a few seconds to wipe out your browser history.

If on my personal computer... I never logout ever .. I just use the "x" ... my online banking always logs out when the browser closes anyway... so that is automatic. On paypal I use the verification system, which means.. each time I go to paypal I get an text message with a code to sign back in every time. MLS times out after inactivity... can't think of any site I would logout of.

'LOG OUT!" What's that.
The never ending parade of ever changing passwords makes logging out a real pain when I must find that 'unique' password with phrases, spaces, special characters, a cap and number.
Now, when I wake up my screen, I want to go to work, not look up those unique passwords.......again.
