Amazing!  I have avoided Zillow at all costs, although I do suggest everyone register as an agent there and try to "claim" your sales and get testimonials posted there. But Z hits me up all the time for the Premiere Agent program, which I know is very costly.  Plus they sell the same leads to multiple agents so unless you can instantly respond, you are likely to never get a sale through them.

What does CNN know about Z and what does Z know about real estate - other than taking massive amounts of money from desperate Realtors®?

I don't think large brokerages are buying these leads - I think (think being the operative word) large brokerages are smarter than that!

Sam Shueh Jennifer Mackay This is not fake news. I attended the Zillow Convention in Orlando last year and met many agents and even offices who routinely spend 10k or more per month with Zillow. 

As for the bidding process, that is true also. Zillow now allows agents to pick zip codes and lets each agent choose to bid more money for a higher percentage of impressions (which turns into leads). I use this technique in every zip code that I advertise in. There are no mandatory contracts but I am offered a six month contract that gives me a bonus amount of impressions so I do it. You also get their new concierge service that calls and sets appointments for me on any leads that I do not answer. Also included is the premier agent app that allows you to tract your leads in real time! Zillow leads are the new sign call .... customers can use the GPS enabled ZIllow app and call me when they are in front of YOUR listing!!!! Why? Bc you choose not to use this valuable technology. This is a great service!

Btw... this is advertising and not buying leads folks. It is no different than running an ad in your local homes magazine. The difference is that your local magazine reaches about 32 people a month and Zillow routinely has 5o to 80 MILLION USERS PER MONTH. 

You may see Zillow as a big evil web site that's trying to steal your customers. However, I see Zillow as an opportunity for ME to steal your customers and it works great!

There are many in my office who participate in the Premier Agent program.... I hate Z.... but I can't control where they spend their money.... they DO get buyer calls and a few listing calls too....

In our area, there are a few large TEAMS that advertize in a big way.  Th biggest one pays over $10K per month to Zillow, but from this they get enough leads to make it worth their while and keeps all their agents busy and selling. 

This team has about 30 agents.
