In my area, it's 'mini ranch' or 'mini ranchette' which could mean anything from a singlewide on acreage not zoned for horses to a home with a few pecan trees. Another nails-on-the-chalkboard for me is 'well appointed'. WTF! Not everything you list is well appointed, ya hair flipper! Hahahah!

Interesting. those 2 styles seem to be rather descriptive here.  In particular, we have a lot of Tudors.  We have such a span of time when homes were built in our area, so these seem very accurate.  We have a lot of Victorian homes, too, but the Tudors are in the more expensive areas.

I'm not sure what type is over used/inappropriately used.

Cottage, maybe not a "style" but the most inaccurate descriptive term I see used often in our MLS.

I'm a simple guy. It's a 'beautiful' home is the most misused and inaccurate style of home description I see on our MLS.

Bungalow and Cape Cod ... they don't look at all alike ... yet so many agents do not know the difference!  Very frustrating.

Craftsman-style.

In our area, it's MCM. The ones that agents note as MCMs are not even period-specific! They were often built in 1990 - 2017 and are merely 'modern' homes, not MCM by any stretch of the imagination!

I don't know I sure liked Debe Maxwell, CRS new MCM listing. I thought the description fit it perfectly!

Colonial. I know agents that call everything a Colonial. Buyers don't seach for Tudors, or Split Levels, etc.

We usually do not use a home style, since our homes are most of the times are mixed. In general, most common styles: Spanish, modern, traditional.... 

Traditional is used most of the times, and I do not even know what that means:) 

We don't have that style in our MLS. The appraisers don't like us using the term contemporary because it means so many different things to each of us.

We very rarely see that here. There are other inaccuracies...like move in ready!

Was in Los Altos, CA today. These are tract homes but they call it Blah blah blah, nothing great about these traditional homes other then they carry a $3.8M price tag. I almost fainted. 

Detached.

Yep, we have a lot of Twin-homes here and agents try to sell them like detached homes to get them more exposure. But, when you pull up and it's got another home attached to it, that's a BIG problem...the kind that finds me in your office chatting with your broker. Happens more than I care to discuss.

We don't have any of those inaccurate style of homes in our area....

We have neither of those in our MLS.  The most commonly misused: Comtenporary

Many don't know what architectural style is so they simply leave the style of home blank in MLS...

Since we don't see much mid-century modern or tudor in my market, I would say it's the use of colonial and craftsman.
