I would like more courses on Realtor safety. The last one I attended was one where the instructor was selling things.

As Oklahoma President I was able to change curriculum so that we could do one hour targeted classes and a lot more about business.

The many aspects of contract law, disclosures, multiple offer procedures. Everything to help agents become more knowledgeable about compliance issues. Contracts, laws and disclosures change and there are too many misperceptions out there.
It's up to the individual companies to teach their agents sales and marketing.

Congratulations on being assigned a position on the Virginia Association of Realtors Professional Development Committee. They are lucky to have you! More classes on contracts and addendum's first comes to mind.

I pay no attention whatsoever to any professional development courses that come out of my association or the state association. It's usually not of a practical nature to improving the running of my business after 25 years.

OH WOW! How lucky Virginia Realtors® are to have you, Mike! Congratulations!
As for education, the thing most missing, based on the transactions I've participated in during the last 4-5 years, is that agents need more training on Contracts - and all supporting documents...desperately.
I agree that safety should also be something that is taught routinely - perhaps even with the mandaroty annual updates to be certain that ALL agents are educated in safety measures.
And, it seems that ethics is a big issue lately too - at least here in Q&A, we hear a lot of agents across the board that are experiencing issues with agent peers.
Good luck, Mike!

I would like to see more mandatory training on contracts and disclosures. Just making the classes available is not enough.

Mike Cooper I would like to see the VAR strengthen the rules governing commercial real estate. For example, enforce Article 11 of the COE or go as far as pushing the Board for a separate commercial real estate license. Business brokerage should also be incorporated into the licensing laws.
Probably beating a dead horse. Conrad Koneczny made a big effort to do with at the VAR and it ultimately went nowhere.
Congratulations on your new assignment.

Congratulations and good for you, Mike. Not sure it is the same in Virginia as it is in California -- one of the most important roles for state associations is communication -- new laws - hot industry topics - frequently asked quesions by professionals and the public alike.

I must say our State Association does a good job overall. Our goal at the local level is to bring the classes they have in Nashville at the Realtor Building, virtually to our Association to save travel and time. I believe with the State's help we will have it within the next year.
