I have no clue, I'm not very fond of turkey unless if it's smoked or fried.  So I have tried something else beside turkey on Thanksgiving and it works :)

Thanks for the redirect to Gabe Sanders post. I had no idea, but was more impressed by the entire turkey population, and this was just the bird variety.  

Live in a border town with New Brunswick Canada and know if you don't get your turkey before Thanksgiving, you won't. You'll be having ham, lobster, something else for the meat. The turkeys at the three big local groceries head to Canada where the HST is high, the cost of the bird sky rockets. These US turkeys taste better too I have been told by Canadian cousins. So how many consumed? Less if you wait in my area because they cross the International border. We do have wild ones though.

I'll have to find out the right answer to this one.... I love white turkey meat.... I usually boil mine to get the fat out...

I personally always cook two and I know of others who cook multiples and others who 'don't do' turkeys for the holiday. We skew the numbers, I'm sure! LOL

I'm more of a prime rib, bbq, mexican and italian food fan for the holidays.  I'll even hit a little bit of vegetable sushi.  If I have room after the pumpkin pie and deserts I'll go for some turkey.

I care not to think about that or how they are raised and "processed" for consumption.

Thanksgiving is ranked as #2 as American Holidays, Christmas is #1... last stats I recall a couple years ago was 48 million.

I have not cared enough to look up the stats, just enjoy eating a few of these tasty birds each year.

Not by me...I do not eat meat, so at least one turkey is safe from being cooked.
