The RIGHT CHARLOTTE REALTOR!

Maybe I'm wrong and would be missing out on business but, if I were in a hurricane ravaged area, I would only be phoning my former clients to see how they are and ask if they needed any trustworthy contractors to help them re-build.

I think 'marketing' for business at a time like this is classless, in my humble opinion.

Every time after hurricane will be a lot of listings. Most of the "hunters" at that time go to the area and "hunt"

No, and I'm not a realtor, nor were we impacted here.  But, I did write a helpful blog post for one of my clients giving tips for repairing and selling a house after a hurricane or flood.  It has safety tips, tips for filing with insurance and FEMA, hiring contractors and next steps if you had your house in the market.  Hopefully, those that need the help will find it when they actively search for it.

I'd rather people find the info if/when they need it rather than go dialing for dollars.

The article is not specific to recent hurricanes.  Rather, it's for any hurricane or any flood/water damage (which happens all the time).  I see so many getting ripped off by their insurance companies, so I hope this helps them.

No, what does a disaster have to do with real estate?  Seems like a time for other things than marketing.

One of my friends, who is a real estate agent, and her husband went around with chain saws and earth moving equipment and trucks and assisted the community with tree removal and repairs - at no charge.  She posted on facebook what they were doing - and to me... that speaks of character and community.  No where did she mention her business, but I bet you this good karma will come back to her 10 fold.

I can't say it any better than Debe Maxwell, CRS did. At some point, "marketing" for more listings in these situations smacks of ambulance chasing to me. And we all know how most of the world feels about ambulance chasers!

No I haven't heard or seen that. I think checking in with all current and past clients and prospects to see if any help is needed would be a place to start. Taking advantage of the recent disasters to market yourself is kinda tacky. But perhaps if done in the right way that clearly shows concern and the desire to help (e.g., resources they can benefit from) it might be received well...hard to say

Debe Maxwell, CRS  - that's how we were fearing it would come across as. However, if anything, emphasizing expressions of honest concern and care, and providing the resources to safeguard people's lives, homes and properties given this unpredictable, extreme weather, is what should motivate the "marketing". Nothing else. In other words, it's not so much reaching out to make a quick buck - as it is to empower, protect and serve your community and homeowners.

Mortgage Officer 46 years!

As a Mortgage Banker, I was involved with Sandy that hit the Jersey shore. I started e-mailing my past borrowers, sent Realtors information on how I could do Construction Loans. Part of my ad stated that I can partner with you, FEMA and your builder to get your home re-built. Being in the Mortgage Industry 50 years, I am sure helped, for I am well know in my community. You must show that you  Care about your clients first and yourself second. I told many people that a construction loan my not be the best for them. Turning away business resulted in more business. "Word of Mouth" is the best marketing of all. I can say that most of my time was listening to these poor people and their loss. Many may not be aware, but FEMA money is not always available to second home owners,so many of my people needed a shoulder to cry on. My best reward was helping an 89 year old lady, living on only Social Security rebuild her home with volunteer money. This is the real reward in our business and it's nothing to do about money. The tears of joy in her eyes was a payment that will last a lifetime.
