I have used for years with my team. Many/most of google items have been free (e.g. google voice, google maps, google analytics, gmail). It probably increases the value of having a gmail acct and usage of google.

Perhaps it will go like this, put all your info on here for free, come to depend on it and all of a sudden if you want to continue or retireive that info, pay up.

I use a lot of Google docs for free. Spreadsheet is not one of them, but Google has never asked me for money except when my in-box exploded...more gigabytes please.

I do not think there is a catch. Lots of docs are free on Google.

I think Google apps are free for individuals. I have the Business Apps and pay $10 a month per user but it gives me a branded email (e.g. nathan@rentcody.com instead of nathan@gmail.com) and I have unlimited storage for all my users.
The best benefit of Google docs is that multiple people can be working on the same document at the same time and it's able to merge all the changes in real time. We have a phone log, to-do lists, checklists, etc. When another agent is making updates, I can see the updates happening on my computer. It also keeps every copy ever saved so you can revert back to a previous copy.
The only thing I don't like is the capabilities are limited compared to Excel but it works for most things.

Yes, I've used them for years and share them with my assistants. We used them for grouping clients for events, mailings and before dropping into our main CRM, etc.
We also use them for AR contests - it's a great way to share information without having to email back and forth.

Google Spreadsheet is truly free.
However, you will find it a very limited SS.
Portability from MS to Big G is dysfunctional at best.
As a shared document, meaning everyone is on the same platform, it should work marvelously.
What the catch? Everything you use offered by Google is scanned and added to the information they know about you and your associates. EVERYTHING! Voice, Gmail, SS all of it is to compile detailed and revealing data about users.
They are trying to catch up to FB in dept of information, for marketing purposes, regarding your interests, passions, activity and sphere of influence.
For Google, what appears to us as free is a good investment.
But be aware of Big G programs like Picasa and YouTubes Video editor and how reliance on them ended.

No, they will not ask for money once it is built:) All Google products are free. They will only ask for you to upgrade your storage if you fill up the free space they offer. Their free space is more than enough for most people:) So go and do your Spreadsheets!

They mine your data so they can make money off of ads displayed on the websites. I also pay them each year for increased storage and am thinking of moving my company email over to them for a better spam filtering... regardless of the NSA wiretap.

I don't really think so. It's really old & they keep updating & changing things & have not charged yet. I think they are a contrast to Office that charges for everything.
