They need to get lucky enough to find competent brokers that have the time and interest in helping them.

There is, they just have to get with the right broker. At least the Utah students all know about the qualities to look for in a broker! LOL!!!!

Yes, all new agents have to go through a training class before they can start selling. Once they finish, they get assigned to a mentor for 6 months.

I get those same questions from agents, primarily with one of the national companies in our area. I've never understood why they only want warm bodies to hang their licenses with them, Dennis Swartz!

Dennis we no longer have an office full of agents but when we did YES we had training going on every week as well as one on one coaching.

I was in our Ignite training yesterday and one of the agents spoke up and mentioned that she has been in real estate for 12 years and two different brokerages, yet this is the first time she has been taught how to be a successful agent.
KW, does train their new, and old agents. That is why I chose them.

Depends on the managing broker. In some states the proliferation of 100% offices has left training in the dust!

I agree. It always surprises when I see how surprised agents are when I "reveal" to them the existence of the many types of public records

it depends on the company and the broker but I am pretty surprised at some of the stories I hear about new agents being not trained or helped at all.

From some of the offers I have received, NO! I think some offices just get all the warm bodies in and hope for the best, sadly!

This too will pass once they figure out that the real estate profession is not as easy as they once believed.

I just interview a new agent this past week and explain to him he has me training him 3 hours per week and will do one of everything with me from one of each open houses to closings.

There's a reason why nearly 80% of all agents quit in the first year. Lack of training is a big part of that.

Dennis Swartz - I'd say, more than ever - provided they want to take it!

I would say it depends on the broker and office. Most are paired with a mentor.

It was bad before and probably not better now. Yes, a new agent can be= you have to do both sides of the deal( at least, make sure it is done checking all the time).

Not really. BAsic licensing covers nothing relating to transactions, negotiation, paperwork,
It does however teach the difference between a ranch and tudor style house, fair housing, agency, but nithing regardign managing a transaction itself. That is all learned on the job.
I wish they had a internship or experience requirement..

This depends on the brokerage they hang their license. Some offer great training and others very limited. It is a difficult situation when the agent on the other side of a deal is asking our agents for help in their transaction! Always advise them to consult with their managing principal broker, but sometimes that broker is not available.

Dennis Swartz This reemphasizes the importance of a good mentoring and training program. Brokers should know better.

Some days i think "not much" as i get those questions too, some unbelievable as well that are basic before an agent should be allowed to hit the streets

Some do and some don't. there are many training opportunities available for all agents.

Thay may not be basic knowledge. I know how to see the public records when thru buying my first property.
I looked into larger brokerages such as KW, c21, Coldwell Banker, which all looked like they provided excellent training to their agents.

Hard for me to say, as I work in a brokerage where we almost never take on a new agent, so our "training" is geared towards the experienced agent.
